$5,000 Referral Award Mechanical Engineer for Subsystem Integration
Mechanical Engineer - Electrical and Controls Subsystem Integration
This is a rare opportunity where your efforts will make a difference on a global scale. As our Mechanical Engineer based in Phoenix, AZ you will drive trade studies that optimize the performance of solar-thermal-electric power generation systems as the systems are developed from limited volume R&D machines into systems that compete favorably with conventional power generation technologies for market share. Your responsibilities will include participating in teams and leading efforts to complete systems-level engineering design and development, technical coordination of system reliability trade studies. Additionally will you drive the development of accelerated testing programs, develop commissioning processes for large-scale solar fields, provide manufacturing support, and field operations support.
Your deliverables will be a key element in the evolution of SES’s solar power generation technology and in the company’s long-term success. Become an integral part of the team as you participate in the creation of systems interfaces and the reliability program for large solar energy power generation systems. You will drive improved systems reliability, improved root cause problem-solving, and conduct system trade studies as a member of the SES team. You will integrate the reliability information from the subsystem teams (Dish concentrators, power conversion units, controls, and electrical power) into a systems reliability model, and help to coordinate the efforts of the technology subsystem teams to ensure the creation of solid reliability test programs. Your knowledge of accelerated test methods that can be utilized to predict critical component performance, reliability analysis and modeling methods, failure forensics analysis, and partnering with vendors to develop new testing methods will be critical elements in your potential for success at SES. Your multi-disciplinary background with mechanical, electrical, controls, and software experience, along with your curiosity and a creative mind, are the elements that will enable your success
Required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering Demonstrated systems integration background with complex mechanical/electrical systems involving multiple disciplines Experience in developing reliability test programs for complex electro-mechanical systems and development of accelerated test methods Experience working in a commercial/manufacturing environment working knowledge of FMEA, reliability analysis and modeling, DOE, and statistical analysis Excellent written and communication skills, including ability to make effective presentations to a wide range of audiencesOther Qualifications of Interest: Distributed generation (DG) background (e.g., solar, wind, microturbine, gensets) Solar energy background (e.g., active solar thermal plants, PV, or concentrating solar power systems, etc) Familiarity with power generation systems, generator sets, or engine manufacturing and technical reporting and documentation Strong problem-solving skills, demonstrated engineering intuition and ability to drive through detail to see the big picture
