Position SummaryResponsible for supervising a professional staff responsible for managing the accounting of operating plants. Responsibilities include review and analysis of ledgers, performing variance analysis, regional reporting and compiling functional financial and statistical data for the projects. Perform special projects as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supervision: Ensure the quality and timeliness of all responsibilities within the group, including review and approval of transactions and examine the ledgers and reports on a regular basis. While expected to delegate many day-to-day activities, is ultimately responsible for the completion of assignments. Analysis: Demonstrate leadership by setting goals, identify risks, prioritize and accomplishing tasks. Must be able to analyze and resolve complex accounting issues with limited supervision. Examine a variety of supporting documents, verify accuracy of computations, and ascertain that all transactions are in accordance with GAAP. Communication: Prepare financial and statistical plant information and communicate with plant and commercial management to ensure that the data accurately reflects plant results. Interface with banks, auditors, counter parties and customers. Assist in the development of accounting policies, procedures and processes. Train personnel in assigned processes to ensure accurate and timely completion of assignments. Perform special projects as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications:·         BS in Accounting with solid knowledge of GAAP is required.·         Minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience.  Public accounting experience and CPA a plus.·         Strong analytical ability.  Must be able to analyze complex issues.  Attention to detail, strong organizational and analytical skills are critical to this position.·         Self-starter with initiative; strong leadership skills, results-oriented; able to work autonomously and in a team environment; take ownership for accounting responsibilities. ·         Ability to work in a fast-pace environment and meet required deadlines.  Must be able to work overtime as required at various times during the year in order to meet deadlines and job requirements.  Apply professional judgment and experience in making recommendations.·         Proficiency in MS Office is desired.  The ability to create complex spreadsheets and experience with PeopleSoft financials is desirable.    powerful performers Calpine is a leading independent power producer in the United States, delivering clean, reliable energy to a power hungry nation.
