About the Opportunity Provide field engineering services and technical support for the maintenance, construction, testing, and commissioning of substation equipment up to and including 500kV. -Prepare substation practices and procedures in the maintenance and performance of substation equipment. -Initiate corrective action to reduce or eliminate equipment failures. -Make recommendations on maintenance/procurement practices. -Recommend solutions to problems that include analysis of risks, costs and benefits. -Analyze data, including test, inspection reports, and mis-operation reports, make technical presentations and write technical reports. -Develop proficiency in the use of standard electrical test equipment and methods to troubleshoot and commission electrical equipment in substations and power plants. Types of equipment include, but are not limited to, protective relaying and relay schemes, power transformers, distribution and EHV breakers, and mobile substations. -Develop proficiency in the use of various technical software packages including, but not limited to, Doble Protest and DTA, SEL 5010, and SEL 5601, as well as administrative software such as SAP, and Microsoft Office products. -Develop skills in the understanding, application, and communication of microprocessor based protective schemes. -Develop proficiency in the use of Enterprise-based systems to design, maintain, and procure equipment for Electric Distribution and Transmission Systems up to 500kV. -Work independently and in unison with others including regional and plant personnel, as well as other departments/sections and outside vendors to broaden technical and job knowledge skills. -Travel to substations throughout the FirstEnergy System and work in the field to support regional and power plant personnel. -Assist, direct, and train others as assigned. -Willingness and capability to rotate into four or more departments within Energy Delivery to fulfill the 2 year Engineering Rotation assignment. -Work safely in the office and the field.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering. Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) preferred.
-Desire to obtain a PE license.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to analyze complex technical problems and exercise sound judgement.
Must have strong organizational skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and PC skills to include Microsoft Office applications and WEB software.
Must have ability to work independently, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to handle multiple assignments.
Must have a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Must be available and willing to work extended hours, assist with emergency storm restoration efforts with little or not advanced notice, travel overnight, and relocate to other FirstEnergy locations.
