Our customer, a leader in the Electrical industry is looking for a Network Applications Engineer to join their team.  Recent college graduate preferred with coursework in Power Systems!

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Under the supervision of an Engineering Manager, Lead or Senior Engineer, provides support on Power System Network Modeling, Network Applications, and performs related assignments as required.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

May include, but is not limited to the following:

Associate Network Applications Engineer is responsible for the Energy Management System’s (EMS) State Estimator (SE) and associated Network Applications (real-time contingency analysis, Dispatcher Load Flow, etc.) .

Establishing and directing updates of the EMS Network Model, and documenting associated procedures to support the accurate and consistent use of EMS Network Applications.

Compare and benchmark the ISO’s Network Applications solution with other available solutions.

Maintain and improve the simplified bus-branch version of Network Model (GE PSLF format).  Analyze, compare, and validate the EMS Network Model with other power flow models. Work with internal and external engineer on power flow modeling issues, software problems, data requirements, and interfaces with other software applications.  Participate in the ISO’s New Resource Interconnection (NRI) process, identifying forthcoming transmission and generation additions. 

Review and address SCADA database issues for the Network Model. Contribute to policy decisions and improved processes for supporting the EMS Network Model, State Estimator, and other Network Applications.

Recommend, develop, implement and document automated computer applications, reports, and other advanced analysis methods, to improve the functionality of the State Estimator/Network Applications

Promote the use of the State Estimator and Network Applications (Dispatcher Load Flow, Contingency Analysis, Breaker Validation, and Dispatcher Training Simulator). Provide user training.

Provide technical support to Operations other departments within the company on Network Model-related databases

Represent ISO at WECC and other industry forums.

Participate in on-call rotation

Investigates and analyzes operational problems and provides appropriate information to Operations Engineers, Grid Planning Engineer System Dispatchers, Outage Coordinators, Security Monitors, Client Relation Representatives, Market Operations staff, and others within and outside the company as required.

Develops technical writing skills for writing of reports. Adheres to and supports the Behavioral Success Factors of the ISO.

Performs related duties and activities as appropriate.

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Level of Education

A Bachelor's degree (BS) is required. Master’s degree (MS) is preferred.
