Chevron Global Downstream is accepting online applications for the position of Manager, Business Development located in Houston, Texas through May 9, 2008.Overview:This position is part of the Business Evaluation and Development group that leads, develops, and analyzes strategic opportunities, strategic studies, mergers & acquisitions, and new business development opportunities.Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Propose, evaluate and implement business development opportunities for Global Downstream, in alignment with the Downstream Transformation and the corporate strategic plan.• Provide extensive functional expertise in the development of such new business development opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, divestment planning, and other strategic initiatives. Lead the development of such opportunities and in presentations to management. This role includes leadership or facilitation of teams with a wide range of disciplines and levels of seniority.• Carry out financial analysis of identified Business Development (BD) opportunities. Has a well developed ability to prepare economic models and determine key assumptions and variables. Understands the political environment at the country level. Propose actions (e.g. M&A, political, social, legislative and environmental). Can use knowledge and understanding of different international business drivers, ethics and values in business dealings.• Network and coordinate with internal Chevron stakeholders within portions of Chevron, including upstream, gas and downstream.• Negotiates BD opportunities with external stakeholders, including potential new partners or strategic alliances. Takes lead role in negotiations or is sought out for consultation on how to proceed with negotiations.• Develop and/or present strategic information for the review of New BD opportunities with Chevron Downstream senior management using Chevron Project Development and Execution Process (CPDEP) and other appropriate project development tools. Knowledgeable about substantial aspects of competition.• Interaction with upstream to identify selected crude production that needs integrated support from the downstream.• Responsibility to identify integrated opportunities and capture them to create value to the enterprise otherwise not available to a single Opco (upstream or Downstream on their own).• Act as a cross-functional champion bringing a full value chain perspective to opportunities as well as aligning cross-functional leaders to a common view on opportunities. e.g. link Manufacturing to pipeline to infrastructure to markets.• First point of contact with the Corporate BD group • Act as a first point of contact for the outside community for BD type activities.• Interaction with the Corporate groups, Strategic Planning Committee, and Executive Committee as required to present projects.• Could support deals in the magnitude of $5B.Selection Criteria:• Dynamic Leadership - Demonstrated ability to attract, grow, and lead an analytical/commercial focused group and provide strong cross-functional, multi-regional leadership. Capital Stewardship Organizational Capability (CSOC) supreme certification level.• Commercial Skills: Able to lead commercial negotiations and develop/manage contracts with 3rd parties…can develop these capabilities in others in group. Understands company financial statements and business drivers for various company structures. Experience with the construction of contracts including legal provisions and financial aspects. Full P&L experience with Balance sheet accountability is a clear strength for any candidate leading Business Development activities.• Industry Knowledge - Specific experience with/understanding of key drivers, economics, and management practices of integrated oil industry, with particular knowledge of Downstream Manufacturing, Infrastructure, and feedstock specifications. Specific Downstream knowledge in North America. Upstream knowledge/connections valuable as well. Experience and ability to quickly see the interest on the enterprise in opportunities.• Communications & Customer Focus - Strong verbal and written communicator. Able to communicate effectively internally and externally with senior management levels and working staff. Builds and maintains excellent relationships, understands & supports needs of others.
