Summary of Responsibilities

Manages the accounting and financial reporting activities of the company.  Responsibilities include the areas of accounting, general ledger and financial statement reporting, treasury and banking relations, accounts payable, cash applications, daily reporting for credit facility requirements, and tax compliance.  The position is also responsible for implementing internal accounting controls, policies and procedures to ensure proper safeguarding of assets as well as approval and reporting of transactions.  Supervises a team of 3.

 

 

The Controller will be responsible for the following duties:Design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP, including revenue recognition, and hedge accounting. Monthly book close and preparation of financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows.  Interact with third party billing supplier to resolve pending issues related to revenue reporting.  Maintain account analyses and reconciliations.  Coordinates with other teams to ensure timely recording of transactions and the integrity and accuracy of financial reports.Analyses of reserves and adjustment recommendations.Coordinates accounts payable procedures to ensure timely recording and payment to suppliers.  Coordinates with credit facility provider to ensure availability of funds and timely payment to electricity providers and Independent System Operators (ISO’s) in accordance with operating agreement and credit facility terms.  Responsible for compliance and accuracy of the daily reporting requirements related to the credit facility. Maintains banking relationships.  Oversight of annual audit.Maintain a tax compliance calendar, as well as responsible for the preparation and accurate filing of federal, as well as state sales and use tax and gross receipt tax by jurisdiction.  Maintains legal structure and compliance with statutory requirements.  Provide guidance and supervision of team members in the areas of accounting and treasury management.Design and implementation of internal accounting controls to ensure proper segregation of duties, safeguarding of assets, adequate approval of transactions, and accuracy of reporting.Other duties, as assigned from time to time.

 

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:Experience in implementing processes and procedures for the accounting and treasury areas.  Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, determine priorities as projects arise and ensure that all projects get completed in a timely manner.Experience in monitoring contract covenants and reporting related to credit facilities.  Exceptional communications skills, written and oral.Leadership skills to ensure appropriate selection, training and motivation of department staff. Advanced analytical and problem solving skillsAbility to work as a team member within all finance and interdisciplinary teamsAvailability to work extended hours, as required.Knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics accounting system and FRX report writer, or similar ERP system.  Proficient in Excel (intermediate level) and PowerPoint presentations.

 

 

In addition, the ideal candidate will possess:

An MBA in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification a plus; 7 to 10 years of experience in the areas of accounting, treasury, and financial statement preparation.  The vast majority of your experience must be in Accounting roles versus Finance.  In addition to managing accounting functions must also have hands on Accounting experience as a foundation.  A minimum of 4 years in supervisory positions is needed.  Experience in the energy sector is a plus
