Based in Chicago, IL Acciona Energy North America Corporation seeks a Commodity Manager.  Reporting to the Director, Supply Chain Management, the Commodity Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of global sourcing strategies for assigned commodities (equipment, components and services). The near term focus will be the development of a supply base to support the production of wind turbines.  This will include supplier screening, sourcing, negotiations, contracting, managing the First Article process and continuous improvement.  Experience in engineered components or capital equipment preferred including bearings, steel fabrications, hydraulic units, transformers, and capital equipment preferred.

 

Responsibilities:Develop commodity sourcing strategies to address supply market conditions, technology roadmaps and product needs and forecasts.Lead the identification, screening and sourcing of various suppliers of engineered components to establish a supply base in support of the production of wind turbines.Develop potential new supplier options by researching and identifying suppliers who manufacture similar components or utilize similar production processes. Screen supplier capabilities including performing organizational, financial and process capability assessments.  Conduct rigorous RFQ process including coordinating clarifications with engineering, analyzing quote responses, conducting detailed cost analysis, and preparing sourcing recommendations.  Lead negotiations including final pricing and the establishment of supply contracts or master purchase agreements including evaluations of investments, acquisitions or make versus buy.Manage the First Article process including developing and tracking schedule and milestones.In collaboration with Quality, establish and maintain a highly effective Supplier Quality Improvement program to assure the company’s domestic and international suppliers meet quality, delivery and cost objectives.Drive continuous cost and performance improvements by analyzing cost drivers, processes and specifications for improvement opportunities.Mentor and develop buyers to support the above responsibilities.Continuously improve knowledge through benchmarking and active participation in industry groups.Contribute to building a flexible, world class supply chain to support the most efficient production of wind turbines.

 

Requirements:

 BA/BS Degree required, Masters Degree desirableMinimum 7 years experience required in Purchasing/Sourcing with at least 2-3 years in a commodity leadership role. Preference for Engineered component & capital equipment industry experienceStrong technical understanding of engineered components including process requirements of any of the following: castings, bearings, steel fabrications, gearboxes, fiberglass moldings, hydraulic systems and control systemsStrategic sourcing experience including supplier qualification and developmentExperience in developing should cost models and/or performing detailed cost analysis.Ability to interface with engineering personnel to resolve technical clarifications or exceptionsStrong negotiations and contract development skillsMust demonstrate understanding of international and domestic supplier relationsExcellent oral and written communication skillsData-driven decision maker with excellent interpersonal and communications skillsFluency in Spanish a plus
