Computer Operations Specialist

OCCUPATION: Network and Server Administration Experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the utilities and energy industry as a Computer Operations Specialist for our Critical National Infrastructure (CNI)  at our Hicksville, NY location.   The successful candidate will be required to work 12-hour rotating shifts in this entry-level position.  The Computer Operations Specialist will support the continuous and efficient operation of some of our critical operational computer systems. Included amongst these are a SCADA / Energy Management System for monitoring and controlling the Long Island electric system and a Meter Data Collection System for retrieving revenue grade electric meter information. This position involves participating in a shift schedule in order to provide 24 x 7 coverage of computer systems. Its responsibilities include routine support activities such as monitoring performance, performing system back-ups, resolving hardware and software related problems, updating databases, and providing internal customer support. It also involves collaborating with end-users, engineers, and vendors to design, develop, test, and install applications in order to enhance existing systems. The successful candidate will be required to work 12 hour rotating shifts in order to provide 7 day / 24 hour coverage of our computer systems.   Candidates who are self-motivated and be able to work independently during shift coverage are preferred.  QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering Technology. Basic programming skills (i.e. Visual Basic, C/C++, Cold Fusion, Korn shell) are required. An understanding of real-time systems, networking, UNIX, Oracle, C, or Visual Basic is beneficial.  The candidate will have strong communication skills with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner and the ability to work well on individual projects as well as in a team environment.
