Corrosion Technician - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Position Summary

The Corrosion Protection Technician is primarily responsible for performing tests to

evaluate the integrity of the pipeline and maintaining records to document the results of the testing.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but is not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.

 

1.  Conducts cathodic protection surveys by performing routine periodic tests on the cathodic protection coating of the pipeline; evaluates the results, and makes recommendations to correct any identified deficiencies.

2.  Performs interference tests; analyzes failures and changes in existing systems and recommends corrective action.

3.  Inspects the work of contractors performing cathodic protection installations and testing.

4.  Evaluates and recommends new corrosion control systems and procedures or revisions to existing facilities.

5.  Prepares bid packets for corrosion control projects; evaluates the quality of the proposals, and prepares contracts for the projects.

6.  Performs maintenance on existing cathodic protection services by energizing, testing, adjusting, and trouble shooting the equipment.

7.  Maintains permanent corrosion control records.

8.  Performs maintenance on the assigned vehicle, tools, and test equipment.

9.  Performs surveys to locate pipeline markers.

10.  Explains information regarding work to landowners.

 

Qualifications

Education

A high school diploma or GED certificate is required with additional formal

training equivalent to an Associates degree in Electrical/ Electronics Technology

or equivalent experience is required. Certification as a Cathodic Protection

Tester Level 1 or Level 2 Technician is required.

 

Experience

One to three years of prior pipeline field experience is desired.

 

Skills

Ability to utilize computer hardware and Microsoft Word and Excel, Miller, and

FERA software to manage, record, and evaluate company information.

 

Skills are required in order to operate multimeters, line locators, insulator testers, soil resistivity meters, and current interruptors.

 

Normal verbal communication skills are required to transmit and receive information to personnel within the company.

 

External contacts require reasonably developed interpersonal skills to coordinate work and exchange information.

 

Working Relationships/Contacts

Frequent internal contacts with Senior Attorney and Right‑of‑Way Assistant for assistance in R.O.W easement work or to gather information on right‑of‑ways; contact with Area Managers, EMT's and Operators to transmit and receive information.

 

Frequent external contact with contract personnel when inspecting their work, land owners to gain access to their land for inspections or construction projects, power company personnel during the construction of new rectifiers and pipeline company personnel during interference testing to coordinate activities and exchange work related information.

The position requires frequent lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling and crouching during inspections of cathotic protection on pipe installations of conduit and test stations, connection of survey instruments at test facilities, and use of corrosion control equipment.

The duties of this position are primarily performed in an outdoor setting with frequent exposure to external weather and electrical shock while performing tests.
