Design Engineer, OEM - Switchgear

We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer (Design Engineer) for our Medium Voltage Switchgear group in the Orlando, Florida area that would be responsible for research, design and development of medium voltage switchgear products; Individual must be able to manage projects to complete tasks on a timely basis with minimal oversight. He/she must be able to gather information on needed product features and functionality and implement them into a completed product.

 

**** MUST HAVE A BACKGROUND in SWITCHGEAR****

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five years experience as a switchgear designer or equivalent power equipment design.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and develop switchgear systems.

Provide input for design reviews.

Provide the checking function on drawing releases.

Assist in the test programs required for the product development projects.

Assist in integration of the equipment into production.

Aid in the resolution of production problems arising from design issues

Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities without impairing quality.

Assist supply management in supplier qualification.

Interface with suppliers and answer technical queries.

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS/ AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree

Strong mechanical design skills (especially, design of sheet metal pars).

Must have working knowledge of ANSI/IEEE/NEMA Standards and UL/CSA certification requirements for switchgear; The same for Breakers would be a plus. Knowledge of comparable IEC standards would also be a plus.

Proficient in Solidworks or equivalent 3D CAD programs.

Experience working with AUTOCAD.

Experience with Product Data Management systems is a plus.

Knowledgeable in high voltage phenomena including electric and magnetic fields

Knowledgeable about application of power apparatus in power distribution systems

Knowledgeable about high voltage electrical equipment test procedures

Must have knowledge of metal and plastics manufacturing processes

Must work well in project oriented teams

Must have good project management skills & Good communication & presentation skills
