This position will be accountable for designing electrical distribution systems, performing investigations of field facilities, researching records, preparing easements, determining electrical code and structural requirements, and communicating with property owners, customers, and contractors. Design duties include preparation of cost estimates, schedules and detailed sketches of facilities using PC-based work management and automated mapping/facilities management systems and company standards, practices and industry code references.
This position is open at the Assistant level as well as the Associate level.
Expectations at Assistant level:
Entry Level Position. Familiarity with use of computers and the ability to learn specific computer applications including FE GIS Design and FE Customer Request Work Scheduling (CREWS). Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, specific personal computer applications such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Must have the ability to interpret engineering drawings. Experience and proficiency in use of CAD and AutoCAD is beneficial. Ability to perform work in an accurate, neat, and orderly fashion.
Expectations at Associate level:
Demonstrated familiarity with FE GIS Design and FE Customer Request Work Scheduling (CREWS). Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer applications such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to perform work in an accurate, neat, and orderly fashion.
Expectations of both positions:
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or the equivalent. Ability to gather field information at various on-site locations including construction sites and customer premises. Oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information. Mechanical drafting abilities beneficial. Ability to learn use of basic surveying equipment. Knowledge of residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution and control system beneficial. Ability to meet customers, contractors and the general public in a tactful, courteous and diplomatic manner and to work cooperatively with others. Demonstrated working knowledge of, or ability to obtain knowledge of, ODOT procedures, applicable codes and the Company's practices and standards for engineering construction and maintenance of distribution lines. A valid State of Ohio Driver's license and a personally-owned or leased vehicle are required to supply automotive transportation needs of the job. Knowledge of the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and ability to work safely. Must be able to negotiate uneven terrain and adverse weather conditions. Be able and willing to work extended hours to assist with storm damage restoration.
