ECONOMIST
South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), one of the nation's largest and most technologically sophisticated environmental agencies, is headquartered in Diamond Bar, California, 30 miles east of downtown L.A., near the junction of the 57 and 60 freeways. The work we do affects the quality of life of over 17 million people living in four Southern California counties!
We seek an Air Quality Specialist (Economist) for our Socio-economic unit, in our Planning, Rule Development, and Area Sources division. This economist will perform a variety of professional level assignments by collecting cost and other socioeconomic data from internal and external sources, selecting and using appropriate tools for data analyses, formulating data in various formats, and interpreting and presenting analysis results in reports. The Air Quality Specialist (Economist) in this unit will also write documents related to AQMD rules, regulations, and plans; apply and develop economic models to assist in the economic impact assessments of air quality related issues; will often work with other units to gather data internally; and may serve as a subject-matter expert.
Duties will include:
• Collecting and analyzing data from a wide variety of sources
• Conducting economic research and analysis
• Using, and assisting in the development of, computer applications for economic research and analysis
• Developing and using tables, charts, and graphs to add substance to analyses
• Preparing interpretive reports

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: This position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, planning, or the physical, social, or biological sciences – AND – two years’ experience that would demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, as follows.
