About the Opportunity As Distribution System Operator, at our JCP&L office located in MORRISTOWN, NJ, you will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the regional electric distribution system,which includes, but is not limited to the following: * Outage restoration during emergency or abnormal conditions. * Recommend operational improvements, and communicate electric system events. * Provide technical analysis and monitor electric system conditions. * Authorize electric distribution equipment outages and load transfers. * Provide detailed description to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages. * Prepare and direct switching and operating procedures for electric distribution system. * Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to field trouble crews and switching personnel. * Monitor system and weather conditions. * Coordinate staffing requirements by calling additional resources to handle storm emergencies and abnormal conditions. * Proficiently and efficiently utilize an array of PC based applications. * Analyze and act promptly in cases of electric system disturbances to restore system. *Operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management System (EMS), GIS View, Power On Outage Management system (OMS), as well as radio and telephone systems.
Qualifications
Required
Must have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors involved with the construction, operation and maintenance of the T&D Facilities.
Skills in the development, collection, organization and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop switching orders and recommendations.
Must have clear and articulate verbal communication skills to convey critical information to the field via the phone and radio in normal and emergency situations.
Must take and pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatching Test
Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule and be available for overtime work when needed.
Must reside within 30 mile commute of reporting location.
Must have interpersonal and analytical skills to make quick assessments and deliver sound decisions when situations occur requiring independent judgment.
Must have reading and comprehension skills to effectively interpret switching requests, engineering drawings and schematics, equipment instruction manuals and standards and procedures to develop distribution switching orders.
Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience required with a demonstrated understanding of operating an electric distribution system.
Must have knowledge of or ability to learn specific mainframe and PC applications.
Preferred
Experience with Electric Distribution.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn Electric Distribution operation, maintenance, and construction practices, procedures, work methods, equipment to operate the electric distribution system.
