About the Opportunity We seek an Assistant Distribution Specialist to work for The Central Electric Lab's Engineering & Operations group's Maintenance Imaging (Thermal, Corona, SF6) and E&O Section Support team. He or she will conduct thermal testing for roughly eight months of the year [April - October]. This individual must have a hiring-level appropriate understanding of preventative maintenance imaging especially infrared scanning, and the ability to become a Level I certified thermographic scanning technician able to provide annual TX Line, DX Line and Substation thermal scanning preventative maintenance for all of FirstEnergy's operating companies. The successful candidate will be based in Akron, OH, Johnstown, PA or Reading, PA and required to travel extensively including overnight for up to a week at a time. The thermographic work will be primarily outside on electric line rights-of-way and in electrical substations with exposure to moisture, heat, cold, noise and uneven walking surfaces. This is an operational rather than advisory position. In additional to infrared scanning skills, he or she must have knowledge of, and be able to perform electrical testing and instrument calibration. Specific tasks would include hiring-level appropriate meter testing, RFI monitoring [EMI testing], specialized cable fault location, and general operational technical support for internal FirstEnergy customers and billable consulting services for external clients.

Qualifications

Associate of Science degree [Bachelor's preferred] in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar technical field.

0-3 years experience in the testing, calibration and repair of electrical equipment.

Ability to work under limited supervision

Ability to read circuit maps and find work locations from them

Strong computer skills including Windows 2000 and most Office products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

A Utility background is desired and will be considered a plus.
