Engineer Regulated Electric Load and Distributed Generation

OCCUPATION: Electrical/Electronics Engineering;Mechanical Engineering National Grid seeks Engineer for our Regulated Electric Load and Distributed Generation Department located in Hicksville, Long Island.   In this position, you will be responsible for activities related to the electrical interconnections to the LIPA System of large (20 MW or greater) including technical requirements, contract administration and on-going operational responsibilities for such facilities in accordance with applicable interconnection requirements, FERC, NYISO, ISO-NE, PJM, state regulatory and corporate operating procedures.  Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:  Interactions with developers, owners and operators of Distributed Resources/Independent Power Producer (IPP) Facilities within the LIPA service territory.   Representing LIPA interests in matters pertaining to Distributed Resource/Independent Power project development, interconnection and operation of large generating facilities.   Stay current on emerging Distributed Resource technologies and evaluate their impact on LIPA electric T&D system.   Review existing interconnection guidelines; make recommendations for revisions  as required by evolving technologies in the electric industry.    Perform economic and technical analysis of potential large scale cogeneration and CHP projects within the LIPA service territory in support of LIPA’s customer retention/attraction efforts.   Perform generation data download in support of LIPA’s revenue requirements reporting process; ensure data accuracy.  Perform monthly Generator Availability Data System (GADS) and DOE reporting.   Ensure current knowledge of NYISO tariffs and technical bulletins related to generator operations.    Communicate generator maintenance and outage schedules to National Grid operations, and energy trading to ensure safe and reliable operations.  Must be available nights, weekends and holidays to respond to operational emergencies.  Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering. Advanced degree in Engineering or Business/Finance desirable. P.E. license a plus. Thorough understanding of electric transmission and distributions systems. Energetic, enthusiastic and positive technical/business professional, with the interpersonal skills to make things happen and to inspire outstanding performance from co-workers. 3+ years experience with power plant construction, cogeneration systems and alternate energy technologies Strong analytical skills Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution system design, engineering and construction methods and practices. Knowledge of OCS real-time generation, MicroStrategies /Corporate DataWarehouse technologies, Great Plains, and MicroGADS.
