Engineer or Advanced Engineer for Reading, PA

Provide technical support to Operating Companies, Supply Chain, and vendors regarding material selection & application, and construction practices. This involves finding answers and solutions based on current electric industry information, applications and practices. Create and maintain construction standards for various sections of the FirstEnergy T&D Construction Standards book. Provide training for regional personnel related to engineering design & construction practices as needed. Develop acceptable Engineering Practices for use by the Operating Companies. Perform duties of a hazard responder or dispatcher to support storm restorations.

Requirements:

Successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (electrical or mechanical).

Additional knowledge of distribution line construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, and equipment would be beneficial.

Working knowledge of the purpose, function, and operating characteristics of distribution equipment and systems.

Working knowledge of electrical theory, distribution design and construction, and the application of Company construction standards and practices.

Possess oral/written communications skills to effectively communicate regarding construction and maintenance of distribution facilities plus interpersonal skills necessary to operate in a team or consensus decision-making environment.

Must be able to effectively read and comprehend engineering drawings, standards, and procedures.

Knowledgeable of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Knowledgeable of the procedures and processes for the acquisition of materials, equipment, and tools; working knowledge of Lotus Notes, and basic MS applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. (Also, a working knowledge AutoCad 2000 or 2005 would be a plus.)
