Environmental Technician

The Oak Grove facility will consist of two PC units, with a cumulative net capacity of 1,600,000 kw and will fire locally produced lignite coal. Initial responsibilities will include supporting Start-up / Commissioning and Operations Readiness of both units (including the power block, fuel and ash handling systems, scrubber system and other environmental controls). This position is a multi-skill position with emphasis in the environmental area. Major accountabilities include the following:


• Collect samples and perform routine and non-routine wet chemistry analyses on various plant process waste streams.
• Monitor the collection of all wastes at the plant site and take appropriate action to assure compliance with regulations.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair the site Sewage Treatment Plant, Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) Systems and Continuous Mercury Monitoring (CMM) Systems.
• Monitor the air quality in and around the plant and take appropriate action to limit excursions and to assure environmental compliance.
• Monitor the condition of the Twin Oaks Reservoir Dam and make appropriate recommendations for continued maintenance of the structure and instrumentation.
• Interface with environmental agency personnel during onsite inspections and visits.
• Provide accurate and detailed documentation of all the above activities, make the required reports in the proper timeframe and assure accuracy of the reports following transmission of those reports to regulatory agencies.
• Communicate problems concerning environmental compliance and assist in solving these issues with appropriate parties.
• Assist in other areas of the Technical Support group as needed to support plant objectives (Chemical Lab and Instrument & Controls areas).
• Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of problems related to the environmental responsibilities.


Qualifications:

Associates Degree in a science-related field (preferably Environmental Science) OR 3 years related work experience.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with environmental agency personnel and inspectors.
• Knowledge of environmental sampling protocols and quality assurance requirements for testing/analysis.
• Knowledge of wet chemistry methodology and techniques.
• Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations; particularly as these regulations pertain to a coal-fired power plant is preferred.
• CEM and CMM experience is preferred.
• Lignite or coal-fired power plant experience preferred.

• Requires occasional long and irregular hours in physically-demanding activities (climbing, bending, reaching, lifting) and in adverse environments (hot, cold, wet, dusty, noisy).
• Must be able to comply with Luminant Respirator Policy.
• Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces.
• Must be capable of climbing ladders and stairs and working at heights above 10 feet.
• Must be available for callouts, weekends, holidays and scheduled shift work as needed to support plant operation and reliability.
