Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) is accepting online applications for the position of Fire Protection & Process Safety Management Engineer located in Richmond, California or Houston, Texas or Aberdeen, Scotland.Overview:The successful job candidate will provide expert consultation and services to the operating companies and capital projects in the Fire Protection (FP) and Process Safety Management (PSM) areas with the objective of decreasing the risk of process related incidents. Key services include capital project support, facility audits, incident investigation, hazards analyses and training.Position requires domestic and foreign travel for up to 40% of time, including trips that can be 2-3 weeks duration. With over 1,700 employees, more than half with advanced degrees, ETC invests aggressively to develop new technology solutions, providing exciting opportunities for stimulating and challenging work.Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Role model safety in ETC and with the customers demonstrating our safety tenets• Provide consultation to Chevron’s Operating Company (OpCo) engineers and other personnel in reducing the risk of accidental releases and fires. • Develop and maintain Company standards related to Process Safety Management (PSM) and Fire Protection (FP)• Develop and conduct training for OpCo personnel in FP and PSM related areas• Participate in hazards analyses and design reviews of new projects with Opco and design contractor personnel• Assist /provide leadership to facilities for PSM audits, loss prevention reviews and insurance underwriter reviews• Assist in incident investigations and in litigation arising from Company incidents• Share lessons learned and best practices through customer contacts, team bulletins, and newsletters• Lead teams to develop or revise work processes which continuously improve the Company’s process safety performance• Assist in development of company guidance on regulations, laws, and industry standards related to FP and PSM• Represent Chevron on PSM and FP issues on industry committees• Participate in team support activities such as business planning, metrics and budgets• Reports directly to Fire Protection & Process Safety Management Technical Team Lead within the Loss Prevention Unit of the Health, Environment & Safety Department of Chevron’s Energy Technology Company. Reports indirectly to Project Managers within Chevron’s business units for work within those projects. Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree required in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Fire Protection Engineering or related disciplines is prefered. • Customer focus: ability to communicate with HES’ customers, understand their needs and concerns and provide timely services which meet their concerns.• Problem solving: ability to analyze problems and apply pragmatic, cost effective, risk based solutions based on facts, ability to lead change.• Communication skills: report writing, training experience, ability to communicate to all levels of the company, active listening skills, ability to develop a contract with the customer, sell our services, and work tough issues to a win-win solution. • Planning: ability to manage multiple projects while in the office and on the road.• Understanding of company operations: practical and broad knowledge of the processes related to our customers’ business, particularly the upstream operations.• Teamwork: ability to work in a team environment, keep supervisor informed, utilize resources, and facilitate meetings and teams • Experience in the application of process safety management systems (PHA, MOC, auditing, investigation, etc.)• Experience in the application of fire protection principles to our type of operations. • Experience in Operations or Engineering in the petroleum business• Experience in upstream operations/engineering is desiredRelocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:US-CA-Richmond Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Other
