Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline (SSCGP) is an interstate natural gas transportation company, headquartered in Owensboro, KY. SSCGP operates a 6,000-mile pipeline system transporting natural gas from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Colorado to markets in the Mid-continent.

Job # 08-0024 – Manager, Safety – Kansas City or Hesston, KS Position Information
Provide direction, motivation, and management to employees in reporting areas. Be personally accountable for performance of employees in reporting area and achievement of area’s goals and strategies. Demonstrate integrity, character, ethical behavior, and personal professionalism in exercise of all duties. Personally exhibit and support the Company’s Guiding Principles. Determine ways to improve and maximize potential of employees and reporting area’s policies and procedures. Effectively communicate necessary and helpful information to employees. Creatively and constructively manage conflict and appropriately address and resolve employee disputes. Engage in regular, consistent performance management, including coaching, teaching, appraisal, and mentoring activities. Align individual employee goals with departmental and Company strategies and goals. Personally develop direct reports and ensure development of all employees within reporting area. Collaborate with other departments and external entities.
Manage area’s budget. Ensure and visibly demonstrate support of compliance with all applicable Company and governmental requirements (laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and orders). Build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients. Assist with maintenance and continual improvement of SSU Safety modules. Demand excellence in approach to work, necessary record-keeping, and required administrative procedures to consistently meet or exceed Company needs and expectations. Provide all necessary reports, documentation, and technical information.
Primary Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Leadership/Management Performs leadership and management duties as outlined above Manages area budget Supports and participates with Safety Awareness Teams
Analysis
· Interprets and defines applicability of governmental safety codes, standards, and regulations including NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, ASTM, PHMSA, and FMCSA
· Evaluates facilities, equipment, materials, and work practices and conditions for potential hazards
· Oversees accident investigations, recommends correction, mitigation, and prevents
· Oversees safety training needs analysis
Communication
· Communicates cross-departmentally to ensure Company’s safety needs are being met
· Liaises with and oversees safety vendors
· Develops, oversees, and maintains safety policies, practices, procedures, standards, and programs including safety awareness, safety rewards and recognition, and safety training
Instructional
· Procures or develops and delivers or causes to be delivered instructional modules in various media related to safety
Compliance
· Maintains all safety records including training, qualification, and investigation
· Conducts and/or coordinates safety reviews and audits to identify deficiencies and assure compliance
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree 7 years experience in occupational safety function Experience interpreting and applying state and federal safety regulations Experience designing and delivering safety training, policies, procedures and processes Experience designing and implementing programs to eliminate accidents and injuries Experience performing accident investigations and mitigation recommendations Experience maintaining safety compliance Audit experience Basic skill level in Microsoft Office or equivalent
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or Safety Management or related field Safety Certification(s) Experience in energy industry and /or construction Experience supervising or leading individuals
Additional Skills: Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within organization Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Ability to effectively handle high levels of stress
