THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION FROM MAY 19 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2, 2008. Flexible schedule available for students until end of school year.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of aquatic services at Rancho Seco Recreational Park (located in Herald CA, 35 miles southeast of Sacramento) on a seasonal basis only. Incumbents perform lifeguarding duties, ensure conformance with water safety rules and regulations, public contact, and may supervise and/or lead seasonal and lower-level permanent staff.


Requisition Number: 2401 Essential Functions:

Work includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Patrols beach area to enforce safety rules for the protection of swimmers and bathers.
2. Detects and rescues persons or vessels in distress.
3. Takes command in emergencies; removes hazards.
4. Performs first-aid and resuscitation procedures. Notifies outside agencies as necessary for medical or law enforcement assistance in cases of accidents and rescues.
5. Informs the public and advises visitors of Park rules and regulations; may admit the public and collect fees.
6. Operates, inspects and performs maintenance on emergency rescue equipment and vehicles.
7. Prepares reports (such as accident reports); operates a radiophone.
8. Performs other duties as required

Experience Required: 1 year

Minimum Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE OF: First-aid procedures and resuscitation methods; lake and river swimming, bathing and boating hazards; first-aid and rescue equipment and their proper use and maintenance; advanced first-aid practices and resuscitation methods; and lifeguard techniques and equipment.

Licenses/Certifications:

Lifeguard Certificate, Title 22, CPR Certificate & First Aid/AED Certificate.

American Red Cross certificates; Lifeguard Training, Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Standard First Aid, and EMSA; Water Safety Instructor (WSI) highly desirable.

Desirable Qualifications:

High School diploma or the equivalent and experience as a Lifeguard in other than swimming pools.
