Chevron Oronite Company is accepting online applications for the position of boratory Shift Technician located in Richmond, California through May 16, 2008.Overview:Overview of Position: The Oronite Engine Laboratory (OEL) is a customer-focused service group that provides engine and vehicle testing services that support client gasoline and gasoline additive product research and development. OEL conducts engine tests using automotive engine test stands, specialized research engines and vehicles, both on the road and on stationary dynamometers. The open position (Shift Technician) is an integral part of a team consisting primarily of technicians and automotive mechanics. Members of the Shift Technician Team manage the safe operation of the Engine Laboratory on a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week basis. Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Operates automotive test engines according to established specifications. • Monitors all operations and makes necessary adjustments to control systems to ensure specification compliance. • Troubleshoots engine and control system problems (operational difficulties) and makes repairs, as necessary. • Documents all operational difficulties and notifies Lab Supervisor or Facilities Engineer in the event significant problems are encountered.• Performs light repair, maintenance, and tune-up of engine systems. Maintains an adequate fuel supply to all engines and vehicles. • Organizes work to ensure efficient operations.• Provides specialized support to clients and other teams within OEL. • Records and stores operational test data. Generates test data reports. Communicates status of on-going tests to OEL clients. • Maintains facilities and responds to system failures and emergencies. Maintains Lab compliance with internal (Chevron) EH&S policies and external regulatory agency (BAAQMD, EPA, CARB, etc.) requirements. • Works rotating shifts.Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Formal technical training (or equivalent experience) in automotive technology, electronics/instrumentation, or computer process control. • Excellent safe work history (no incident of safety infraction due to neglect) • Ability to lift 50 pounds; Ability to move a 400 pound drum with a drum dolly. • Must be willing to work outside in bad weather • Must be able to enter an engine testing environment • This is a safety-sensitive position and requires enrollment in a drug/alcohol screening program. • This is a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week rotating shift position. Weekend work, holiday work, and occasional mandatory overtime are required.
