STP Nuclear Operating Company (STP) is one of the largest nuclear power plants nationwide, and is an industry leader in safety, reliability and efficiency, STP’s twin pressurized water reactors produce 2,700 megawatts of electricity, enough to serve more than one million homes in Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio and surrounding areas in south central Texas. The plant is located about 90 miles southwest of Houston on a 12,200 acre site near Bay City in Matagorda County.
STP recently announced the construction of two additional units at its existing facility. The two new plants will produce an additional 2,660 megawatts of base load electricity for the region, more than doubling the current capacity of the facility. The new construction along with the existing plants will generate hundreds of new jobs for the region.
Manager, Communications & Public Affairs
STP is searching for a professional to lead the strategic and day-to-day aspects of our integrated internal and external communication programs, including media, government and political relations. This position will serve as media spokesperson and will report directly to the VP Shared Services. The position requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations (5 years experience in corporate communications, public relations, television, newspaper or other writing/reporting experience may be substituted for degree). A Master's degree is preferred. In addition, the position requires 10 years experience in communications/public relations (3 of which should be in a supervisory or management position).
Summary:
STP Nuclear Operating Company is searching for a professional to lead the strategic & day-to-day aspects of our integrated internal and external communications, including media, government and political relations. This position may direct a staff of 5 and will report to the VP Shared Services.
Ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
- Plan & manage the full spectrum of PR & Communication services
- Propose & implement strategies to maintain the public image of STP
- Serve as media spokesperson
- Represent STP at public events, meetings, and public relations opportunities
- Develop communication materials for executive management (scripts, speeches, talking points, media materials, video scripts, Q&A documents, etc)
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and other members of the press
- Act as company liaison with public relations agencies, photographers, designers, writers and printers
- Maintain responsibility for public relation activities and programs such as public information, employee information services and public contact programs to promote good will
- Develop special events to increase public awareness of STP
- Organize guided tours of STP for community leaders, organizations and stakeholders
- Use research and focus groups to identify and refine messages
- Maintain responsibility for STP Web Page, Vision broadcasts & Visitor’s Center.
- Maintain contacts with counterparts in the nuclear industry and regulatory agencies to remain abreast and responsive to the latest communication developments
- Maintain responsibility for corporate giving programs
- Foster collaborative relationships with diverse individuals through flexibility & teamwork.
- Develop trust & promote clear objectives for a focused Communications/PR Program
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations (without a degree, 5 years experience in corporate communications, public relations, television, newspaper or other writing/reporting experience). Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
(in addition to educational requirements)
Ten (10) years experience in corporate communications, public relations, television, newspaper or other writing/reporting experience. Three (3) of the 10 years should be in a supervisory or management position.
