Mechanical BOP Design Engineer

 

 

 

The BOP Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design of Balance of Plant (BoP) equipment integration, it's implementation into the power house, involved in all steps from the bid period all the way to commissioning, and trouble shooting.  This position assures proper  BoP design and interfaces with the Turbine and generator engineers. Position is involved in job walks, proposal work, project implementation, commissioning to after sales service.

 

Primary Function

Collect site information's, site assessment, site evaluation

Overall Mechanical BOP design

On rehabilitation projects, complete reverse engineering

Guides all generator aspects of design, site technical issues all the way to commissioning, warranty period.

Site trouble shooting support

Maintenance support

Interface to design engineers in the factories

Commissioning support, including write-up of commissioning tests and maintenance procedures.

 

Organizational Placement

This position will reports directly to the VP, Hydro Electric Power Group and obtains support from the Hydro Electric Power Group in Japan and China.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

BoP design reverse engineering as well as new design implementations. Commissioning of equipment, preparation of test plans, maintenance manual, operation manuals, in case of stand alone project, project management on this task. etc.

Strive to secure profitable orders, participate in meetings and site visits, initiate technical strategy for bids (solution analysis, industrial scheme)

Pre-qualify and work with subcontractors

Assemble proposals, write technical descriptions. Take part in contract negotiations.

Consult and work closely with the VP, Hydro Electric Power Group on various issues ranging from bid aspects, site aspects all the way to execution of the projects.

Assist in execution of contracts provide local source of contacts for clients and subcontractors.

Support extensive subcontractor, suppliers, and technical field staff on technical matters.

Coordinate closely with manager, clients and subcontractors to ensure smooth business transactions

Provide after sale service and provide training to the customer.

Handle technical claims belonging to issues on projects, and technical project issues.

Trouble-shoot on technical matters, including those in the warranty period

Provide design, field engineering support, site testing  on hydro power plant aspects on all phases from bid to commissioning.

Writing of equipment related procedures, site investigation, design all the way to commissioning

Establish reverse engineering tools, soft-ware based.

Interfaces with Toshiba with Japan and China on design related issues

Handle spare parts orders.

Prepare bid proposals for upcoming Hydro projects, ensuring all bidding requirements are met technically.

Assist manager -in gathering information related to prospective projects.

Prepare project reports or summary sheets on a timely basis, reflecting accurate contract information.

Travel to job sites, subcontractors and customers to monitor progress, address client's concerns and resolves pending items

 

Minimum Position Requirements

BS or MS with emphasis in Mechanical Design

Min 10 years experience in Power / BOP Design

* Must have Power Plant experience
