The Geological Operations group in Houston has an opening for an experienced Operations Geologist or Petrophysically oriented geoscientist. The successful candidate will be working in a team-based environment including members of the drilling group, petrophysicists, geohazards specialists and exploration/ development geoscientists. The immediate areas of involvement will be Gulf of Mexico wells being drilled in the Neptune and Shenzi development areas, but responsibilities will evolve as newly acquired exploration leases are made ready to drill. Some international work associated with BHPB's operated lease holdings in the Falkland Islands, Malaysia, and Columbia are also likely in the next 2 years. The job of operations geologists will require weekend "on-call" status shared between a team of three, and M-F has a 24/7 component. COMPETENCIES

Success in the position of operations geologist requires a commitment to getting deeply involved with the details of the wells BHPB drills, and a strong drive to communicate effectively and influence this organization's activities. The successful operations geologist must communicate very effectively and persuasively in order to have significant influence in the projects outcome. EXPERIENCE

The candidate should have 5 years or more of relevant experience in the upstream petroleum industry working with drilling wells, but specific work as an operations geologist is not a prerequisite. The successful candidate will have familiarity with wireline and LWD logging measurements, and competency with geological software for constructing cross-sections and making composite logs. Familiarity with pore-pressure prediction methods is highly desirable and demonstrated skill in the interpretation of pore pressure from sonic and/or resistivity logging is a highly regarded.

Experience with the following is beneficial:

Demonstrated technical writing skills

Strong familiarity with wireline and LWD logging tools and methods, and a desire to gain additional competency in this area.

Practical experience in correlation of wells integrating biostratigrapic data with primary well log data.

Practical experience with mapping software, preferably Petrel.

General offshore drilling operations experience is desirable. QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in relevant geoscience discipline
