Position Overview:Chevron Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for the position of Petroleum Engineer – Thermal Well Workover and Completions Specialist (08-0100-ET), located in Bakersfield, California.The Heavy Oil Strategic Business Units (SBUs) have identified a need for experienced Heavy Oil Specialists. This position is a two-year developmental assignment for experienced (4+ years or post-Horizons) Heavy Oil technical employees who desire to become specialists in their field of interest. Upon completion of the program, it is expected that the candidate will be available to be placed, or post, to heavy oil Business Units worldwide based on the needs for their skill set and area of specialty. The program consists of the candidate receiving training and structured mentoring from recognized subject matter experts, transitioning to the candidate performing independent technical work supporting heavy oil projects. Skill areas required to enter the program include special knowledge of drilling and completions, and some knowledge of thermal production, reservoir, or operations. The specialist program will be managed by the Heavy Oil Organizational Competency Team Leader in Energy Technology Company (ETC) Heavy Oil and Unconventional Resources (HOUR), Bakersfield. Depending upon the nature of the specialist developmental assignment, and mentor, the candidate may report to the San Joaquin Valley Business Unit, or ETC HOUR, Bakersfield. Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Assist Operating Companies with thermal well completion and workovers, including design of thermal completions for producers (vertical and horizontal producers) and steam injector completions. • Design and advise on sand control, lift, and subsurface steam distribution techniques, remedial workovers on producers and injectors. • Interact with rig and field personnel. Some rig work supervision expected. • Assist with new asset development and/or operational issues, heavy oil technology development and best practices deployment.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:In order to be considered for this job, applicants must have: • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related Engineering discipline (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical).• Heavy oil focus reflected as part of a career development plan.• A minimum of 4 years experience (post Horizons).• A minimum of 2 years previous heavy oil experience.• The willingness and ability to relocate to where Heavy Oil Specialist’s are needed.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the required qualifications, the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:• A Master’s Degree.• Interest in developing heavy oil expertise.• The capability to become a technical leader and mentor technical expertise.• Independent problem solving and study abilities, as well as creativity.• Positive teamwork behaviors and skills.• The ability to understand fundamentals of drilling, completion and workover planning process (working with business partners, asset teams, and drilling and completions workgroup members to develop cost and time estimates, detailed well designs, drilling programs, and post-mortem evaluation).• Good organizational and analytical skills.• Knowledge of heavy oil and thermal or geothermal completions and workover techniques.• Knowledge of production well performance and inflow, artificial lift and injection well completions.• Strong team working skills, as well as mentoring and training skills.Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:US-CA-Bakersfield Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
