Westinghouse Electric Company PCI located in Lake Bluff, IL is seeking a Principal Design Engineer in its Engineering department.


In this position, a Principal Design Engineer  can expect to perform the following duties:
• Broad knowledge of engineering principles, application to related systems / components / equipment, and techniques and applications in field of specialization
• Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred), working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
• Familiarity with nuclear power plant operation, systems and components preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum five years, but typically up to ten or more years, of applicable design engineering experience is required. Advanced engineering degree may substitute for additional experience beyond 5 years.
• Design experience in any of the following areas preferred: machine tools, welding equipment, robotics, material handling equipment, jigs and fixtures.
• Experience with the following manufacturing processes preferred: machining, welding, Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), material handling, metrology.
• P.E. (Professional Engineer) license desired
• *Valid driver’s license and passport required for plant access and international travel.
• Apply advanced engineering principles, techniques and experience to identify, direct and integrate acceptable resolution of highly complex and/or system level technical issues addressing customer, regulatory and Westinghouse requirements. Issues often involve multi-disciplinary areas.
• Coordinate and lead efforts for complex technical projects by preparing technical descriptions, organizing projects, developing and maintaining project schedules, directing resources, and delivering products/services to satisfy customer needs.
•  Ability to direct complex projects with general degree of creativity and minimal guidance is essential.

A successful candidate would be familiar with and/or have experience with the following:• Plays participative or advisory role in decision-making process with respect to planning or acquiring financial resources.
• Conduct frequent technical presentations to various internal/external personnel, up to and including staff level management.
• Provide technical/project management direction and effectively explain technical information to intra/inter-business unit personnel, up to and including staff level management, customer management and government agency personnel to successfully deliver product or service.
• Ability to gain cooperation of internal and external business unit and/or Company personnel.
• Negotiate complex technical solutions and basic commercial activities with customers.
