This is a Product Development Engineer position within Chevron Global Lubricants (CGL) - Global Base Oils (GBO) - Marketing & New Business Development team located in Richmond, California. This position provides direct product technical support for Chevron Global Base Oil marketing and manufacturing activities, manages development of our next generation base oils and provides project evaluation and analytical support which may include leading project evaluation teams. Qualifications:Key Responsibilities:• Group II and Group II+ Product Line Responsibilities: Working with the Base Oil Product Manager, develop performance data to support a differentiated Group II product positioning. Provide answers to technical inquiries about Chevron products, technical information for formula sheets, MSDS’s and marketing materials for new and specialty products.• New Base Oil Product Development: Lead the market development of next generation base oils. Work closely with other base oil team members, finished lubricants manufacturers and third-party laboratories to generate technical understanding and demonstrate performance advantages of new base oils. Execute and maintain product development agreements with third-party suppliers and customers. Write clear and useful reports which update stakeholders on program expenditures and progress.• Global Marketing and Sales Support for Chevron-branded Base Oils: Create PowerPoint presentations and white papers that support the value of Chevron base oils, particularly in new markets. Pull together and present economic analyses, including decision and risk analyses, which evaluate new products or processing routes at the Richmond Lube Oil Plant (RLOP).• Technical Supervision of Base Oil Technicians: Provide work instruction to two technicians, who blend, test, sample and track inventories of base oils. In this role you will also be expected to provide coaching and guidance.• Project Analysis and Evaluation: As needed, fulfill the role of project analyst, providing technical and business support for marketing, manufacturing and new product development activities. This could involve changing specifications of an existing base oil product, producing an entirely new product or developing a new process to make an existing product. The successful applicant will eventually be expected to lead evaluation teams for various manufacturing and marketing projects, consistent with Chevron Product Development and Evaluation process (CPDEP) principles.• Base Oil Technology Custodial Duties: Be the principal representative for GBO in Lubrication Technology Sharing Ventures, and be responsible for technical content on the GBO web site. Be a back-up trainer for both live and computer-based training for the Base Oil Module to Lubricant Marketers in North America. This training is generally performed in Richmond 3 to 4 times per year. Required Qualifications:• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Chemistry. An advanced degree is a plus.• Experience in Lubricant Technology and/or Base Oil Technology.• Demonstrated analytical skills and complex problem solving skills.• Strong teamwork and communication skills.• Demonstrated Chevron Way behaviors.Desired Qualifications:• Commercial experience desired. • Manufacturing experience, especially refining/hydroprocessing desired.
