MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION Support and development of Production systems to support company activities across the asset life cycle from the project development and execution phases through to plant commissioning and operations. Support for the Production Technology functional team. Project management of larger systems projects and implementation for new business units, when called upon to do so.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or other relevant area or equivalent experience gained by length of service. Previous track record in design, installation and project management of production systems within the upstream Oil & Gas environment. In addition familiarity with production allocation and deferment processes and the systems architecture used to support allocation, deferment and forecasting is also seen as desirable. A understanding of SCADA/DCS and control systems is also seen as desirable Broad technical knowledge of IT systems and standards in both the infrastructure and applications area. Strong business analysis skills for effective gathering of customer requirements, and the selection and implementation of software solutions. Demonstrate strong people and organizational skills and ability to build effective working relationships. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Strong understanding of systems, architecture and planning of enterprise applications. High levels of initiative and energy.
AUTHORITY & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Production Systems Lead, within the Dev and Production IT Function.
As part of the Dev & Production Network this position works closely with other IT analysts (particularly business analysts and infrastructure and telecommunications analysts) and embedded IT personnel in Production Units.
The position interfaces within the business in the following areas : Provides direct assistance to the Production Technology functional team introducing new systems and improved ways of working to the production units. Direct involvement with Production Engineers, Production & Maintenance and Operations personnel in Production Units, in systems projects, often with direct delivery responsibility for new solutions benefiting the Production Division. Provides the technical support to system 'owners' within business teams
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Based in Houston with regular global travel, as required, to establish and develop the role.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities:
IT application architect for the following key in-house systems supporting production reporting, morning reporting, production deferment and reserves and forecasting.
Convene IT Peer Review and assurance processes (ensuring technology building-blocks are in place) to support remote, geographically distributed project IT workgroups through the various phases of feasibility, pre-development, development (including construction and commissioning) and operations.
Support delivery of the Integrated Production Optimisation program (IPO) supporting Production Units and the Production Technology functional team.
Lead business process improvement initiatives to make more efficient and more widespread use of systems in existence and ensure that new systems are properly understood and utilised after technically complete. Change management is an important aspect of the role.
Manage key supplier relationships providing software and support to systems such as: production allocation and deferment; engineering documentation; process historians and other tools emerging in the MES space.
Manage customer stakeholders - chair regular meetings, deal with issues, handle escalations
Support embedded IT teams involved in the use and standardization of our application portfolio.
Participate as part of the extended expert support model for key systems such as EU, EDV, OSI Pi/OSI Soft
Provide career guidance, development and succession planning for related operations IT staff.
Select and recruit contractors (and additional staff), where necessary, to meet the resource requirements for emerging and expanding developments with appropriate personnel.
Key Systems:
Provide the Subject Matter Expert Role for the following systems: Production Allocation System - (Energy Upstream from Denver based P2 Energy Solutions) EDV - used for daily operations reporting process and production data validation system Production Deferment (loss) management and reporting Oracle Discover Reporting and Query application used for EDV Upload and download macros supporting daily reporting for JIUs (Joint Interest Units) Opportunity Forecasting and Tracking (PROPMS)
Contribute and advise on the following systems: Interfaces and Enhancements to SAP Plant Maintenance area, making better use of information from the process historians Process Historian configuration and use for automated and manual data gathering. Document management and engineering change control systems - where they relate to engineering and plant process activities Be prepared to support and advise on any systems used in Petroleum Operations that require attention to better support business activities.
General: Be highly visible to the business through developing strategic relationships/partnerships to ensure that the business is aware of this role and how it can assist them. Understand the IT Strategy & Systems Architecture, and contribute as part of the global IS team to develop capabilities and share learning's. Keep up to date on IT industry trends in the Oil industry and ensure that best practices are applied within BHPB. Project Implementation - provide logistical and administrative oversight of all Global projects. Program Monitoring - ensure continual monitoring of the program's progress to ensure that the program systems are working to achieve goals and objectives and program maintains Petroleum IT Vision and PMO (Project Management Office) accountability standards. Be prepared to make strong and timely decisions where required on projects, and exercise perspective on issues as they arrive. Reporting - ensure the preparation of 2-weekly, monthly, annual and end of project reports as required by PMO. Work to ensure that all reports are accurate, comprehensive and lucid and will ensure the credibility of the program. Influence and assist in the management of change for these projects - includes, change identification at the initial stages of a project prior to implementation, through to the follow-up of the project to ensure delivery has met business needs. Capture and share the learning's from these projects.
