Production Tech 4 Apprentice
Performs a variety of operation and maintenance functions at water production and related facilities. This is a skilled maintenance position that also performs operational duties under the direction of a certified operator. Days and hours of duty may vary as required or under unusual circumstances.
Essential Functions
Performs preventative, corrective, predictive maintenance on equipment and structures as assigned. Inspects and troubleshoots equipment using tools and gauges to meet established standards and conditions.Obtains necessary parts, supplies, and tools through established and revised procedures. Performs routine cleaning, lubrications, adjustment, inspection and repairs.Reports and documents results of inspections and work performed, and enters into the appropriate database.Operates equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units.Recommends new and more efficient maintenance functions or techniques.Inspects all equipment at assigned facilities for signs of failure or malfunction and advises the Supervisor of any equipment failures or possible failures.
Additional Functions
Collects water, groundwater, sludge, and residuals samples according to schedule and uses automatic sampling equipment.Performs basic field and/or laboratory tests in order to pace chemical dosages for process control or to alter unit processes.Maintains complete and accurate records of test results.Monitors and observes operating conditions and records observations and data in appropriate log.Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective actions.Follows process control procedures for assigned area; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor.Can substitute for the following classifications when needed, per qualifications and seniority:Production Technician HelperProduction Technician 2Production Technician 3
Essential Requirements
Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control, maintenance management and QA/QC.Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance of water production or related equipment.Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic and routine process and mechanical problems in single or multiple unit processes and take action to correct the process problems by chemical, physical, or mechanical adjustments to the process.Requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions; i.e. SOPs, work orders, other documents, etc.Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees.Must have basic computer skills including, but not limited to basic operations and manipulation of data on spreadsheets, etc.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
The ability to perform tasks requiring standing and walking for extended periods of time.The ability to climb stairs, squat, and work with hands extended above head in front of body.Must be able to lift up to and carry 50 pounds.Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions, and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.Must comply with all Safety Requirements.
Work Environment
Occasionally works outside in all weather conditions and temperatures. Normally works in an office or maintenance shop environment.
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).Minimum of one year (24 semester credit hours) of post high school formal technical training in electronics, electrical or mechanical maintenance or related technical field.
Experience
Requires general knowledge of the methods, techniques, and principles associated with operations, maintenance, installation, construction, investigation, testing and repairs of equipment, above and below ground assets and or grounds.
Supervision Received
Verbal and written instructions received from supervisor.
Direction Given
Directs Production Technicians 2, 3 or Laborers to provide assistance with accomplishing directed tasks.
