Founded during the 2001 California energycrisis, GRID Alternatives’ (www.gridalternatives.org)mission is to empower communities in need by providing renewable energy andenergy efficiency services, equipment, and training. GRID Alternatives providesthese services exclusively to low-income households earning less than 80% ofarea median income, including families, seniors, and persons with disabilities.Our programs seek to enhance long-term housing affordability for low-incomehouseholds by permanently reducing their energy costs, and to expand economicopportunity by providing skills and training in the growing field of solarelectricity.

 

We are currently assemblinga proposal to administer the California Public Utilities Commission’s CaliforniaSolarInitiative (CSI) Single-Family Low-Income Program, a landmark program to provide significantly subsidizedsolar electric systems to low-income homeowners throughout the state ofCA.  GRID Alternatives is in a strongcompetitive position and we are looking to provisionally hire a full time ProgramManager in anticipation of being awarded this contract.  The resume for the selected candidate will beused in GRID Alternatives’ proposal and their employment at GRID Alternativeswill be contingent upon GRID Alternatives being awarded the role of Program Managerof the CPUC’s CSI Single-FamilyLow-Income Program.  For this reason, the person offered theposition would not need to leave their current positions unless and until wehave secured this contract.  There willbe short term potential for a candidate to obtain a consulting position withGRID Alternatives to be in on the ground floor, participating in program designand putting together the proposal.  Interestedcandidates must have significant experience managing large multi-million dollargovernment and/or utility contracts in a related field.  This is an exciting position for someoneinterested in being part of a high growth non-profit organization at a criticaljuncture in its growth.  We are lookingfor someone who is independent, driven, and whip smart; can figure out what todo without being told to do so; and has a personality that easily buildsrelationships with government, utilities, subcontractors, partners, andstaff. All this and you must be able tojoin a non-profit organizational culture that values above all else the low-incomecommunities we server and is continually challenging ourselves to make sure we doright by our clients.

Required skills: Proven track record of managing multi-million dollar government and/or utility contracts Demonstrated success in designing and managing large energy efficiency or renewable energy programs including development and execution of detailed and effective implementation and management plans, program evaluation, project pipelines, and marketing plans Superior writing and verbal skills, including presentation skills Keen attention to detail and organization Highly developed interpersonal skills Strong understanding of solar electric industry and California policy around energy efficiency and solar Strong computer skills, particularly MS Excel Willingness to work for high growth non-profit in start-up environment Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or environmental justice Ability to collaborate and be a team player while simultaneously leading, directing and managing a large team:  must have proven record of managing teams Strong analytical and problem solving skills Ability to cultivate and foster relationships with government, utility and stakeholder entitites

 

Desired skills: Experience with project budgeting and cost tracking Familiarity with the theory and practice of energy efficiency or renewable energy program evaluation. Understanding of statistics and forecasting would be a plus. Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database Experience in the development of proposals Direct experience working with the California Public Utilities Commission and/or California utilities  

 

Degree/Years of Work Experience: Degree in policy analysis, economics, engineering, business, environmental science – others considered based on experience At least 5 years of experience in the energy efficiency, renewable energy or related industry is required  

JobDuties Responsible for managing $108M contract to install 8,000+ solar electric systems over 8 years on the homes of low-income families Management of subcontractors and related contracts Establishing and maintaining relationships with California Public Utilities Commission and the three investor owned utilities (Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas and Electric) Development of organizational/program systems including project tracking and budgeting Management of staff and ability to work as a team with all staff across multiple regional affiliates Managing workflow to ensure GRID Alternatives is meeting program goals Preparation of project financial analysis and monthly reports and performing project tasks. The latter could include: Performing and/or reviewing cost-effectiveness analyses; Development and execution of marketing strategies; Developing project tracking systems; and Performing project QA/QC reviews. Person also will play a major role in initial program establishment and roleout including assisting with the formation of project teams, developing implementation strategy.

 

Office Location

This is an office position at GRIDAlternatives’ Oakland Office - within walking distance of BART.

 

Compensation

$80,000-$90,000 annually plus Kaiserhealth, Delta dental, optional 403b, and 5 weeks Paid Time Off/PTO
