Location: Palo Alto, CA; Charlotte, NC; Knoxville, TN Are you looking for a position with the potential for growth with a company whose work impacts the well being and future of our environment?  Work with a small team of EPRI project managers (a “cluster group”) within the Office of Innovation to actively scan and identify novel concepts in science and technology for possible application in addressing Environment Sector issues pertinent to the electric power industry and its customers. EPRI is the R&D force for the global electric power industry.  With $300 million in research funding annually, we help solve today's toughest energy and environmental challenges.  EPRI provides a robust package of total compensation including competitive pay, insurance coverage, and a retirement plan that provides substantial value to professionals who are starting their careers to those who are well advanced in their careers.Job Function:
Work with EPRI Environment Sector staff, members and outside organizations to identify potential science and technology needs as the basis for doing the concept scanning. Meet with universities, entrepreneurs, and the business community to identify potential novel concepts for consideration of EPRI research support.Work with the Sector technical staff to become familiar with the EPRI Environment Sector Portfolio and its application and value to EPRI’s members and society at large.Under the direction of the Office of Innovation, organize information about applicable novel concepts in science and technology so as to be transferable to EPRI staff and potentially make such information available to EPRI members in a digestible form. This may take the form of white papers, technical assessments or mini business plans.Participate actively with others in the Office of Innovation Cluster Group team so as to enhance EPRI’s culture regarding innovation.Work under the general direction of the Office of Innovation while reporting to the Environment Sector.After approximately 6-9 months, but not more than 12 months, assume a rotational assignment in the Environment Sector as a project manager in a field relevant to the individual’s experience and interests.
 Ideal Candidate:
Experience and/or interest in conducting water-related research; and integration of water conservation research with other aspects of water resource management including treatment options, watershed modeling, and water quality tradingCandidates should harbor a natural curiosity, be imaginative and reasonably bold. They should have the tenacity to try an idea, even though it may not work the first time and stick with something they start, even when it seems impossible.The successful candidate will possess the ability to work in a multi-tasking environment and prepare, manage and document information and plans.The candidate must have the analytical skills required to set goals and objectives, develop plans and schedules, and set priorities so as to accomplish goals on time.The candidate will possess excellent teaming abilities so as to work successfully with staff, contracted resources, and the scientific and technical community at large to collect and assess information on new, innovative opportunities.The candidate should possess excellent oral and communication skills to represent EPRI to the outside world.The candidate should possess knowledge of the electricity and/or energy industry.Desirable characteristics include knowledge of application of Environment Sector science and engineering addressing issues pertinent to the electric power industry, and knowledge of competitors, contractors, and other stakeholders in the Environment Sector research and science/technology community.Additional desirable characteristics include experience in business planning and the development of business plans, product development, and market research analysis. Some knowledge of marketing and business economics would be beneficial. 
 Education Level and Years of Experience:
MS or PhD in engineering or science. Preferred candidates will have degrees in economics, physical, biological, medical, engineering or mathematical science.Two or more years of experience in some related technical area such as operations research, physical sciences or toxicology, public health or advanced degree with research experience.
