Position Description:Chevron Corporation is one of the world’s leading energy companies. Headquartered in San Ramon, California, and conducting business in approximately 180 countries, the company is engaged in every aspect of the oil and natural gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation. Chevron Products Company is accepting online applications for the position of Instrumentation and Electrical Designs Engineer located in Pascagoula, MS through April 11, 2008.Overview:The I&E Design Engineer, as an essential partner, plays a key role supporting the refinery's mission to operate optimally, reliably, predictably, and without incident at the lowest sustainable cost. This involves taking a lead role in understanding and evaluating plant performance, working closely with Operations and Maintenance to establish priorities for the work and following through with proactive design and execution of instrument and electrical projects and improvements. As a member of I&E Designs Engineering (East Team or West Team), typical Team activities and responsibilities include the following:•Writing work orders, purchasing materials, and troubleshooting plant issues.•Providing technical support to many of the Process Safety Management processes.•Providing I&E Designs Engineering support to other Technical Groups in the Refinery•Pursuing personal development (both soft and technical skills) through formal and informal training Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:•Proactively provide day to day I&E Engineering support for an operating Area Business Unit. This includes but is not limited to providing technical expertise, providing cost-effective recommendations, providing engineering design solutions, writing work orders, purchasing materials, troubleshooting plant issues.•Provide technical support to many of the Safety Management processes.•Provide I&E Designs Engineering support to other technical groups in the Refinery.•Provide I&E Designs Engineering, support, coordination, and planning, and/or design for capital projects up to $2 million incorporating the principles of the Capital Project Design and Execution Process (CPDEP) process.•Responsible for personal improvement of both soft and technical skills through formal and informal training.•Provide technical support to the I&E Reliability Team and other teams in addressing I&E related Reliability issues.Required (Basic) Qualifications:• I&E Designs, Reliability, Facilities or Project Engineering experience in a Refining or petrochemical location. Engineering experience in field application of instrumentation, controls, analyzers, electrical systems and day-to-day support of an operating plant.• Ability to clearly convey technical concepts and project risks in a team environment and in presentations to peers/customers and management. Must be able and willing to communicate ideas effectively and clearly to persons at all grade levels, give feedback within team setting, and take responsibility for both outward and inward communication. • Delivers Superior Business Results as detailed by the Chevron Way including Safety: Embraces Incident and Injury Free Operation (IIFO); Actively participates in safety meetings, behavior based safety observations, and compliance requirements; Works with a sense of urgency on schedule driven tasks and takes personal accountability for project execution; Has a proven track record of consistently delivering results; Applies capital projects development and execution process and capital stewardship operational excellence processes/ behaviors; focuses on essential work to reach timely decisions; creates value in the business. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-discipline, collaborative environment. • Ability to build team consensus and ownership of issues as related business plan deliverables and inter-refinery initiatives. Ability to work smoothly and effectively resolving daily instrumentation, control, analyzer, or electric issues in a Refining environment. Demonstrates commitment to team approach to problem solving. Removes barriers to teamwork. • Strong analytical skills with ability to understand and analyze refinery operation and maintenance reliability issues. Ability to use complex tools and to evaluate alternatives. Ability to incorporate both long- and short-term process improvement impacts in analysis• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives and/or tasks simultaneously with cross-functional department involvement. (i.e. capital projects, area business unit day-to-day support, and shutdown activities) • Demonstrated capability in leading problem solving efforts and to bring tasks to closure. Inspires teamwork and work for consensus on design by including cross-functional team representatives. Demonstrated ability to accept change while staying productive to meet business needs. Demonstrates commitment to safety and environmental compliance. • Demonstrated ability to proactively seek out, analyze and effectively communicate design solutions, and profit/cost savings ideas. • Ability to work in a highly technical environment. Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) is a must. Preferred Qualifications:• Bachelor of Science preferred or higher in related engineering field with a minimum of five years Refining or Petrochemical experience.• Consideration will be given for non-engineering degree applicants with a minimum of ten years of practical I&E engineering experience (instrumentation, controls, analyzers, and/or electrical experience) in a Refining or petrochemical environment.• Knowledge of technical tools including SAP, Passport, Meridium is desirable.)Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.This is a safety sensitive Position.A Flexible 9/80 Work Schedule is availableEOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:US-MS-Pascagoula Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
