Inc., is accepting online applications for the position of Research Assistant located in Richmond, California, through May 15, 2008.Overview:The open position involves working in the Pilot Plant Control Laboratory (PPCL) of the High Volume Services Team (HVST). The HVST is a group of 30 scientists and analysts that use hundreds of analytical methods to conduct thousands of analyses each month. The HVST specializes in chemical, physical, elemental, and gas chromatography analyses. The Pilot Plant Control Laboratory supports the analytical needs of the Pilot Plant Operations in various refining areas to evaluate distillate, lube oil, and base oils by using GC Simulated Distillation and Refinery Gas analyses. Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Working safely in the Pilot Plant Control Lab and/or Gas Chromatography Lab. The successful candidate will prepare samples and perform standard ASTM and non standard Simulated Distillation and other gas chromatography measurements on vacuum gas oil, residual oil, base oil, crude oil, gas samples, and other many other petroleum liquids. • Maintaining and documenting quality control for all measurements performed, and reviewing, summarizing and reporting analytical data.Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Experience with one or more of the following apparatus: Agilent GCs (6890), RFG Wasson Gas RGA Analyzers with detection devices such as thermal conductivity, flame ionization, and GC-SCD and GC-NCD (sulfur and nitrogen chemiluminescence detectors). • Experience with: EZChrom, Agilent ChemStation, or SimDist 2000 software programs; sending and recalling chromatography data from a central database server; generating and organizing sample identification tags for various analytical measurements; and using glass gas sample bombs with a gas sampling manifold system.• Willing and able to work on weekends as regularly scheduled work days and must be willing and able to work in more than one laboratory within a multifunctional analytical team.Preferred Qualifications:• Bachelors degree in Chemistry.• Excellent manual dexterity and eyesight to carry out work with small objects, the ability to document analytical work, and the competence to maintain and repair lab apparatus.Relocation Options:Relocation will not be considered.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will not be considered.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:US-CA-Richmond Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Biotech/R&D/Science
