Purpose:
The Systems Architect, Applications job’s primary responsibility and accountability is providing applications architecture leadership for the current and future NiSource technology environment.  This includes working with business leaders and service providers to develop and implement applications related architecture strategies, as well as developing methodologies to ensure compliance to those strategies.

Key outcomes for success include:
*Proactive plans for future application needs, based on anticipated NiSource business goals and IT industry future directions
*Defined processes to ensure compliance to the technical standards and procedures by service providers and NiSource
* Published applications architecture standards and procedures

Essential Responsibilities:

* Remain continuously aware of business and applications issues, along with trends and best practices, and incorporate this knowledge into applications architecture strategy and plans
* Develop and maintain processes to support the adoption and implementation of the applications architecture
* Recommend proactive courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness, and use influence and negotiation skills to implement them effectively
* Perform situation analysis and recommendations for problem solving
* Provide applications architectural consulting and guidance for all technology projects at NiSource
* Oversee all projects within the applications architectural domain
* Maintain regular contact with business segment and IT management and communicate clearly and effectively on specific projects
* Effectively manage service providers and ensure they are adhering to NiSource’s applications architecture guidelines and policies
* Establish mechanisms for ongoing identification and management of applications risks
* Provide advice and consultancy across the service provider’s project team related to applications architecture compliance or needs

 

Qualifications

 

Selection Criteria:
* Bachelor’s Degree in a technical (Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline) or business field required
* 10+ total years experience:
* 5+ years experience as an Applications Architect with responsibility for developing target architectures and explaining complex problems or situations
* 5+ years experience in Applications Development
* 2+ years of experience in project management
* Ability to work effectively in an outsourced IT environment and support continuous transformation
* Experience with and knowledge of new computing architectures and networked computing structures
* Strong experience working with SOA, object-oriented analysis and design
* Previous experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement involving broad-based information systems, utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change; business systems analysis experience
* Strong knowledge of information systems
* Ability to identify group conflict and facilitate resolution

Additional Information (optional):
* Familiarity with the standards and best practices bodies  i.e. The Open Group, IEEE, OMG, ITIL, CoBIT, CMMi/Six Sigma/LEAN is preferred
* Familiarity with the Energy Industry i.e. FERC and PUC is preferred
