Senior Accountant - AWE

Primary Role:

American Water is the largest water services provider in North America, serving more than 17 million customers, with activities in 29 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and Canada. We own and operate over 350 water and wastewater systems.

We are currently recruiting for a Sr. Accountant for our Cherry Hill location.

This position is responsible for accounting activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and resulting managerial reports and financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, regulatory practices and Company policy.


Key Accountabilities:


Prepare and maintain accounting ledgers, journals, worksheets, schedules, financial statements and reports, studies and analyses, as appropriate for O&M Projects and Carbon Line of Business.

Train new and less experienced members of the team.

Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; support the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascade and share knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across teams.

Analyze and resolve moderately complex data and report problems and communicate solutions to clients.

Resolve problems and respond to inquiries by collecting information and researching problems.

Budgeting, Landing Zone, Forecast and preparation and support of the five year business plan.

Assists with the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes, including adjusting and closing journal entries or in preparing budgets, financial statements and reports.

Deliver timely and accurate accounting information to Corporate Accounting, Project Managers, Regional O&M offices, and Carbon Business Manager for accounting, finance and tax reporting purposes.

Manage allocation, inter-company billings and account reconciliation.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and processes.

Proficiency in MS Office applications and Lotus Notes.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.

Five (5) plus years experience in related area. Great Plains experience preferred.

CPA or CMA preferred.
