Senior Buyer

Obtain material and services from suppliers at the most economical cost, consistent with quality, service and delivery requirements by utilizing sound purchasing techniques and in accord with established purchasing policies, practices and procedures.    Gather required information from various suppliers pertaining to price and delivery dates.  Select suppliers and arrange terms and delivery dates by analyzing information and quotes received from suppliers for items of non-repetitive nature where sources, prices and terms may not have been established by previous repeat buying.  Expedite delivery as needed.  Responsible for effective inventory management of assigned parts through programs such as consignment, supplier managed inventory, Kanban and other visual replenishment methods.  Reconcile differences between receiving reports and invoices.  Develop and furnish timely, accurate and pertinent information and reports as required by management.  Other responsibilities as delegated. Other significant dimensions of position: The individual in this position should possess the following skills: Strong negotiator with interpersonal skills, computer proficiency, strong analytical skills, knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles, and knowledge of current quality standards. Most assignments originate from self-initiated activities and agreed upon objectives, which support strategic plan and plant GDP. To ensure achievement of cost objectives, incumbent must lead aggressive cost containment and inventory reduction programs. Above average communication skills required as position interacts with a variety of plant personnel and external suppliers. Supports Division Strategic Sourcing cost reduction projects, value analysis and new product introductions as required.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in related field and /or Five (5) to Seven (7) years experience utilizing sound purchasing practices and techniques within a manufacturing environment. Experience negotiating price and terms of contracts with suppliers necessary. Position requires understanding of general business concepts and theories related to purchasing strategies and inventory management. Knowledgeable in the use and application of Window’s based applications and SAP/ERP System. CPM or CPIM certification desirable; Six Sigma Green Belt desirable.
