SENIOR CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER responsible for all aspects of foundation/site design including: geo-technical, structural, roadways site preparation, SWPPP, conforming to environmental and safety standards, and drainage design. This position provides support to the geographically diverse construction and business development activities undertaken by Client. Consequently, this position will be located at Clients’ headquarters office.

Purpose:
This position will be responsible for civil engineering of wind farm projects, road construction, wind turbine foundations and electrical foundations for substations and switchyards.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide leadership and technical guidance for engineering team including teaching, assisting, and developing the skills of co-workers in the department. This includes other civil design engineers and CAD technicians.

2. Establish good interface and communications with other mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure high quality, on time, and on budget projects.

3. Provide scope of works for geo-technical site evaluation and manages the site investigation to ensure that the correct information is gained to complete the design.

4. Provide construction support, confirming that ground conditions are as expected and coordinating redesign if not.

5. Be a technical resource for the Client offices in the U.K. as required.

6. Carry out preliminary and detailed foundation design for projects, and verification of foundation designs by sub-consultants.

7. Analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.

8. Computes load factors and material design analysis to determine design specifications.

9. Considers environmental conditions and safety factors to identify engineering issues and assess the potential impact on structural design.

10. Directs or participates in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide road construction and micrositing of turbine locations.

11. Estimates quantities of materials including concrete and reinforcement as well as cut and fill balances.

12. Inspects project sites to monitor quality and as built structures and liaison with site personal to ensure conformance to design specifications.

13. Able to address conflicting priorities.

14. Familiarity with and ability to stay current regarding foundation and Geo-technical engineering development.

15. Needs expertise and the necessary skills to interface with sub contractors and will be instrumental in delivering on time cost effective projects.

16. Represents the company to meet contractual requirements.

17. Understanding of contract terms and ability to recognize discrepancies.

18. Employees must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess an appropriate valid driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.

19. Responsible to ensure SAFETY requirements must be met.

20. Stay current with professional and industrial best practices.

21. Must be able to work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.

22. Regular attendance is an essential requirement of the job.

23. Follow any other job-related duties/functions requested by the supervisor.

 

Requirements:

1. Minimum 10-15 years of proven industrial experience that includes the design of large reinforced concrete foundations.

2. Heavy commercial/Power, Utility, Energy background is preferred.

3. ABILITY TO TRAVEL for site visits.

4. Skilled in MSOffice and Outlook, with proficiency in Excel.

5. Experienced with MathCAD and other structural design software.

6. Knowledge of GSA by Oasys is an asset.

7. Able to obtain a valid passport for travel to the U.K. as necessary.

Education:
BS Engineering degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, P.E. qualification preferred.
Geo-technical engineer with civil design experience, or Civil Engineer with Geo-technical experience.
