Responsible for initiating, directing and executing programs to accurately communicate the company's positions, policies and actions to the media and providing timely emergency communications to ensure the health and welfare of the public. Must be bilingual (English/Spanish) with superior written and oral communication skills in both languages. Acts as a senior on-camera spokesman for the company as member of a 24-hour information bureau, especially on sensitive company issues. Acts as backup to director of public affairs and vice president in interaction with senior executive management on critical news making issues. Supervises and counsels field personnel to maintain single voice of the company in external materials. Writes and edits appropriate materials – news releases, statements, FAQs and backgrounders –  to help the media and the public understand the company's actions. Develops programs for interaction with editors and producers to promote awareness of the company's actions and positions. Assists in leading and directing crisis communications responses both internally and externally. Position is based in Miami, reporting to director of public affairs in Juno Beach. Bachelor’s degree and experience in both journalism and public relations required.



Requirements



FPL Media Relations Team seeks a bilingual (English/Spanish) senior media specialist with at least five years experience in public relations. Previous journalism experience a plus. Candidate must be a proven relationship builder with media-management experience, strong written communications skills (AP style preferred), and the ability to deliver corporate messages on-camera in both English/Spanish. Must be self-starter capable of working remotely. Position is based in Miami, reporting to director of public affairs in Juno Beach.

Utility experience a plus. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, public relations or English. FPL offers a team oriented work environment with a strong leadership organization and an exceptional compensation plan.
