Rio Tinto Procurement (RTP) is responsible for sourcing, buying, and delivering the goods and services needed for successful business operations in the most efficient and cost effective manner.




This role is a senior commercial advisory and service role within Rio Tinto Procurement.. It requires a deep understanding and skill in the development and management of productive ‘repeat business’ relationships with its customers, suppliers and Rio Tinto staff. RTP comprises a team of people working across time zones, across cultures, in a virtual environment, with demanding work targets, and where special attention must be paid to developing interpersonal relationships, effective teams and organizational trust.


The role calls for an understanding of procurement and supply chain best practices, commercial law and mining requirements, and an ability to proactively manage and execute change. The incumbent will enforce policies related to the establishment and optimization through value in use of commercially favorable contracts on behalf of Rio Tinto Minerals Americas. The Sourcing Specialist delivers value through strategic and innovative project management and execution of sourcing projects. It is expected that Sourcing Specialists will work and support peers in order to optimize the value delivered against plan and develop leadership capabilities within their area(s) of expertise.


The Sourcing Specialists will work closely with the Superintendent of the Service Delivery Team, the Service Delivery Manager, Sourcing Analysts, external Service providers and Business Unit representatives as required. The Sourcing Specialist must have a strong appreciation of operational and health and safety related requirements and must proactively ensure Rio Tinto Business Unit Safety Standards are prioritized in the procurement of goods and services.




Education and Experience Requirements:

A degree in purchasing, commerce, engineering, mining or related discipline
Strong communication skills
A high degree of computer literacy
A demonstrated ability to work well within a team
5+ years in commercial analysis/negotiation
Mining/oil and gas experience
A demonstrated ability to think strategically and interact with internal customers and suppliers
Understanding of Supply chain concepts
Knowledge of Contract Law
Demonstrated success in developing and leading negotiations
Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization
