Sr. Derivative Accountant (808860527)
The Sr. Derivative Accountant is responsible for (1) performing various mark-to-market and hedge accounting duties and (2) monitoring, analyzing and reporting on assigned portions of the gross margin activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent:
• Performs assigned mark-to-market (MtM) and/or hedge accounting duties, including the summarization and validation of Risk data and summarization of Risk Book rolloff data.
• Performs the reconciliation of Risk Book rolloff data to actual physical commodity settlement data.
• Performs analysis and summarization of physical commodity gross margin activity for certain regions/desks, including volume analysis and balancing.
• Performs analysis of “trading” vs. “non-trading” activities.
• Assists with various reporting requirements relating to MtM and hedge accounting activities, including the quarterly asset/liability split, maturity tables, MtM and Other Comprehensive Income/Loss rollforward analyses.
• Performs assigned account reconciliations.
• Assists in the consolidation and review of monthly gross margin activity and reconciliation of the Risk P/L to the Accounting P/L for TCEH.
• Provides 10-Q and 10-K support relating to margin activities for TCEH, including MtM balance sheet reporting, MtM disclosures and margin explanations.
• Assists with special projects and information requests.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The minimum education requirements are:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance
The minimum experience requirements are:
• 3 years of accounting/finance work experience in a dynamic and analytical environment
• Understands the financial closing process and monthly/quarterly cycles
• Detailed knowledge and experience of accounting for derivatives strongly preferred
• Effective project management and time management skills
• Broad knowledge of financial transaction flows from source systems to the general ledger
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and can apply these accurately to commercial transactions
• Ability to effectively communicate on the subject of accounting with other personnel and influence decision making
• Understands the commercial side of the energy industry and can link this to the financial statements
• Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
• Excel, Word and PowerPoint application skills
• Ability to review the work of less experienced staff and take corrective action
Preferred education and experience requirements:
• CPA or equivalent professional qualification
• 3 to 5 years of accounting/finance work experience in a dynamic and analytical environment.
• Thorough knowledge and experience with financial closing process and accountabilities of the accounting and finance area
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Experience with reviewing the work of other less experienced staff and following through to final approval
• Ability to assess issues and make timely and well informed decisions
• Strong proficiency in Excel spreadsheet functionality
