Job Description Sr. Electrical Designers 3 positions Senior Electrical Engineer/Designer I – Frederick, Maryland(5 Openings) Job DescriptionPlans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems. Working knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, the principles and practices of related technical areas and of coordinating work with other technical disciplines. Understands the standard engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating, and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the application of engineering techniques. Normally uses conventional approaches to technical problems encountered. Provides technical direction and assigns work to engineers, designers, and drafters who assist on specific assignments. Responsibilities: This position is for a senior engineer performing electrical power distribution and generation systems and/or controls design within a power generation plant. This individual will be working under the direction of more senior engineers or supervision and may have more junior level subordinates with responsibilities for group performance and deliverables. Responsible to produce design drawings and documentation with a high-level of technical complexity within the discipline. Examples of this documentation may include single lines, three-line diagrams, system descriptions, protection and control logic diagrams as well as lower-level discipline drawings and designs. Performs systems calculations such as large transformer sizing, power system relay protection setpoint, short circuit and voltage drop calculations. Develops specifications for equipment where deviation from standard documentation is required such as medium voltage switchgear, diesel generators and power transformers. Plans and coordinates individual work and subordinates (if any) within and outside the discipline including client, equipment manufacturers and other departments including construction and startup. Individual will be knowledgeable in the codes and standards within the industry and familiar with related construction practice. Will have demonstrated skills in written and oral communication. Basic Requirements: BSEE, BSEET 15 to 10 years (Grade 25/min. 5 years) (Grade 26/min. 10 years) of practical design experience in electrical engineering within an industry related to the above. Preferred Requirements: Professionally registered engineer in the U.S. 2 to 5 years (Grade 25/min. 2 years) (Grade 26 min. 5 years) of experience in electrical engineering within the power plant generation industry. Expertise in computer based engineering analysis tools including CAPTOR, ETAP, EDSA, SETROUTE and BLOCKDRAW. Ability to produce design drawings in a 2D CADD environment utilizing Microstation or AutoCAD. Previous experience leading the work efforts of subordinate engineers/designers. MSEE in power systems design Senior Electrical Engineer/Designer II – Frederick, Maryland(5 Openings) Job DescriptionEvaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications, performs assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for an engineering discipline within a global business unit. Understands the basic discipline work processes. Performs engineering tasks, within a discipline, having a minor degree of complexity. Participates in reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data from suppliers. Familiar with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs). Senior Designer – Frederick, Maryland(5 Openings) Job DescriptionPlans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit. Participates in the operation of a small size design group in a particular discipline. Assists in the preparation of plans and coordinates the assigned work to meet the project schedules. Requires a basic knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, 2-D and 3-D CAD, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline. Responsibilities: This position is for an Electrical Control or Physical Senior Designer performing work on a fossil or nuclear power plant generating facility. This individual will be working under the direction of more senior engineers/designers. Responsibilities include the production of higher tier and conceptual drawings and documentation related to the design of electrical power distribution systems within the electrical discipline. This design will generally fall under the area of physical and/or electrical controls design. In the area of physical design, examples of this documentation may include layout drawings for electrical equipment, cable tray and hangers, underground duct banks, above ground conduit and hangers, lighting, communications, cathodic protection and grounding. Development of related calculations and material requisitions will be required. Knowledge of hazardous areas classifications and design for electrical equipment. In the area of controls design, examples of this documentation include logic diagrams, schematics, cable block diagrams and termination details. This individual will be familiar with circuit breaker and motor control as well as electrical controls for plant mechanical equipment and systems. Development of related calculations and material requisitions will be required. Individual will be knowledgeable in the applicable codes and standards within the industry and familiar with construction and startup practices. Will have demonstrated skills in written and oral communication. Basic Requirements: 2 year degree in a related science or extensive experience in design and drafting. 5 to 10 years (Grade 25/min 5 years; Grade 26/min 10 years) of practical design experience in electrical design within an industry related to the above. Business travel required. Right to legally work and remain in the United States. Preferred Requirements: Electrical Engineering Technology Degree (EET) 2 to 5 years (Grade 25 min. 2 years; Grade 26/min 5 years) of practical design experience within the power industry.
