About the Opportunity This Sr Engineer, located in Reading, PA will be responsible for performing Transmission Planning activities on the FirstEnergy transmission system by conducting analysis of the Transmission Network, supporting maintenance of transmission system databases, and evaluating, recommending, and initiating projects to correct overloads, under-voltage conditions, stability concerns, improve system reliability and/or to increase revenues for the Corporation. Evaluate the impacts and facility addition requirements associated with new loads, generation and power transfer reservations. Coordinate activities within the Transmission Group and with the FirstEnergy Regions, Power Plants, other transmission customers, neighboring utilities, RTOs, and applicable Regional Reliability Organizations. Become familiar with FirstEnergy and industry mandatory standards, monitor system reliability and performance, perform administrative duties and other duties as assigned, work with and supervise others. Responsible for support for planning functions across FirstEnergy transmission and sub-transmission systems in the MISO and PJM footprints: *Work with various industry groups to 1) Meet requirements and obligations that FirstEnergy has within the industry and 2) Promote FirstEnergy ideas methods and procedures the industry should be using as it moves forward. *Support maintenance of annual update of planning related department documents such as the Planning Criteria document. *Work to meet requirements of various governmental agencies such as PUCO and FERC by providing input to filings as required. *Provide support to Systems Transmission and Distribution control centers to complement their network analysis. *Perform analysis of the bulk and area transmission systems as well as the subtransmission system to ensure compliance with regional and internal reliability standards. Propose, cost justify, and initiate projects to mitigate any deficiencies that are identified. *Maintain transmission system power flow model including topology, ratings, impedances, and generating unit capacities in coordination with the Planning and Protection Support Section within the Energy Delivery Group. *Work to meet requirements of various governmental agencies such as PUCO and FERC by providing input to filings and special requests as required.
Qualifications
Required
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with a PE License.)
Professional Engineer's License is preferred.
Highly seasoned, accomplished and recognized as subject matter expert by subordinates and peers.
Knowledge of RTO, RRC and NERC organizations/activities. Have the ability to recommend changes/enhancements to RTO, RRC and NERC policies and procedures.
Experience using PSS/e or PSLF power system analysis programs.
Multifunctional breadth and depth along with a high level of job knowledge and technical expertise including five plus years related experience in transmission planning and protection and training in power system analysis.
Able to lead by example, educate and direct others on technical subject matters, improve element programs and process effectiveness, and make significant contributions to the achievement of element goals and objectives.
Able to work independently, and as part of a team, on work assignments. These assignments are broad in nature involving the compilation, preparation, and analysis of various statistical/analytical data, reports, statements, studies, or projects.
Demonstrated effective analytical and reasoning capabilities, refined verbal skills, and ability to effectively present information to peers and management.
Travel throughout the FirstEnergy system and to other industry related meetings will be required.
