Salary: $71,500 - $119,500

 

This position will be filled as Sr. Tech Support Specialist, Sr. Lead Tech Support Specialist, Sr. Engineer or Sr. Lead Engineer depending upon the chosen candidate’s qualifications and experience.

 

Candidate needs to have a thorough understanding of the design and fabrication Codes used in power plants, to include ASME, NBIC, AWS and API. Must have the knowledge and understanding of the engineering and design characteristics as well as the mechanical maintenance of power plant auxiliary equipment with regards to fabrication, welding and nondestructive examination. Must possess the experience and skill to identify and analyze common maintenance problems, and indications of pending failure. The candidate needs to possess a level of expertise required to assist the OEM with the development of/and to evaluate the OEM recommendations for short-term and long-term repairs.

 

Primary Functions & Responsibilities: Provide an “expert” level of consultation and complex problem solving skills associated with applicable piping and auxiliary equipment to Plant Operations in areas such as welding, metallurgy, nondestructive examination, and failure analysis. Formulate and develop NDE inspection strategies, techniques and procedures for plant systems and components. Develop and qualify welding techniques and write welding procedures for use by Plant Operations. Assist regional support personnel in the development of work scopes, schedules, project costs, and identifying the source of technical resources. On occasions, the candidate will function in the roll of team leader and/or project manager. Develop the data and information necessary to construct and manage a ¿fleet strategies¿ approach on piping systems, pressure vessels and fuel oil storage tanks.  Work with other component experts in Technical Support to provide the information and data to support recommendations to the Operational Directors on the condition of fleet equipment and maintenance and operating needs of the fleet.

Education: 

Minimum requirement is a BS in Welding Engineering or Metallurgy from an institution with a certified Engineering curriculum and an ASNT Level III NDE Certification. Other disciplines may be considered depending on the experience of the individual. Advanced technical degree or MBA and Professional Engineer registration desirable.

 

Experience: 

Candidate needs to have 10-15 years of heavy industrial experience with piping fabrication and erection, oil storage tank design and fabrication and the nondestructive examination of power plant components. Candidate must also possess a functional knowledge of the assembly and disassembly of pressure vessels, steam turbines, combustion turbines, large pumps, and large fans. Candidate must also possess knowledge of other plant equipment and systems, to include boilers, heat exchangers and condensers. Experience considered applicable would be field service engineering experience with OEM’s, operations and maintenance experience with an electric utility company, design experience with an OEM, operations and maintenance experience with another heavy industry where similar equipment to utility. Travel will be required.
