Sr. Manager, Pricing Competitive Positioning
This Sr. Manager leads residential P&L planning and analysis activities, including understanding, synthesizing and driving key variances to the annual/quarterly/monthly plan, defining and tracking key initiatives for achieving plans and goals, and managing key risks and opportunities around the Residential Markets segment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent:
• Manages the annual and quarterly planning and monthly P&L variance analysis and reporting for the residential business with a high degree of quality and insight; develops the short and long term financial and operational goals of the residential segment.
• Works collaboratively with marketing services, operations, financial planning and accounting, product development, legal and regulatory, wholesale, and other support functions to understand and track performance against business cases supporting initiatives, new products and services, and all significant investments of financial capital.
• Develops and ensures consistent, objective modeling, analysis and valuation of all significant projects across the business.
• Analyzes markets and defines objectives, goals and initiatives that improve the bottom line EBIT and NPV of the residential business.
• Actively participates in cross-functional teams, providing analysis expertise, offering original perspectives, and challenging the conventional view to align decision-making and adapt to changing market conditions.
• Maintains high level of open communication and morale within the work group and among supporting work groups across the organization, including close coordination with the financial planning and reporting and marketing and operational areas.
• Establishes, communicates, monitors, and maintains residential performance goals. Aggressively performance manages and meets key results objectives regarding gross margin, customer retention and acquisition, SG&A, capital investments, and operating costs.
• Effectively communicates residential strategies, objectives and business plans across the organization.
• Manages people, resources, and activities related to residential market management. Trains and builds employee development in key areas affecting residential performance. Mentors, coaches and provides guidance on career development for team members.
• Ensures technical knowledge, skills, and experience are developed and maintained within the team and ensures appropriate backup and continuity exists among the positions and priorities.
• Constantly evaluates the competitive market, competitors and enables rapid adaptation to changing market conditions to maintain superior competitive positioning.
Qualifications:
• CPA, CFA, or Master’s Degree in Business, Finance or Economics
• 8-10 years job related experience, preferably in the energy industry, regulated electricity, or similar relevant work experience
• 4 years experience in retail energy, regulated electricity or gas, or similar relevant work experience in mass retail
• Project management or supervisory experience of at least 2 years
Preferred background and knowledge requirements:
• Public accounting experience and/or strong accounting and financial statements knowledge, Sarbanes Oxley or internal audit background, and deep experience in performing P&L variance analysis involving financial, marketing and operational reporting
• Proven capabilities in managing P&L results for a major mass markets retail or utility company
• 4-5 years supervisory or project management experience

• Superior understanding and command of the residential electric business in Texas
• Strong financial analysis and strategy development skills with particular emphasis on competitive marketing strategies, customer segmentation, pricing and product evaluation, and bottom line impacts of decision-making
• Strong general management capabilities and desire
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Broad understanding of the business and exposure to variety of areas (wholesale, risk, marketing, operations, finance and legal)
• Demonstrated ability to interpret complex data, problem solve, and produce insightful conclusions and results
• Multi-tasking and project management skills in a fast paced dynamic marketplace
• Ability to manage and motivate diverse teams and projects
• Persuasive, consensus building skills
