Station Engineer

Station Engineer Position Duties:

1.  Provide engineering for substation capital projects engineering and design team.  This position's responsibilities include grounding studies, lightning shielding studies, insulation coordination studies, station configuration and layout, NESC compliance, power fuse coordination studies, knowledge of OSHA regulations, mitigation of environmental issues.  Candidate must be knowledgeable in the general application of the following in substation design practice (usually performed by others):  protective relay schemes and controls, structural and foundation installations, T&D construction, operation and maintenance performance concerns.  Familiarity with the NEC and NESC or the ability to research their requirements is desirable and requires some application.

2.  Work with project planners to develop alternative substation solutions and determine the most effective approach considering cost, construction, operation and maintenance performance perspectives.  Lead preliminary station project scoping meeting involving all project stakeholders.  Provide accurate and complete engineering estimates for authorization of substation projects which includes detailing projects including equipment, material, labor, overheads and contingencies.  Conduct project close-out debriefing meetings with project participants to determine lessons learned regarding quality, cost and schedule results.  Lead project close-out effort to collect performance information on all projects including lessons learned, and communicate results to others for their benefit.

3.  Ensure complete identification of bill of material, and timely order and arrival of equipment and material, issue of construction prints and documents, project milestone dates and interfacing with field construction personnel to resolve issues and concerns.  Act as a project lead on projects that are not assigned to the project management organization.

4.  Responsibilities include interfacing with several other sections including Transmission T-Regions, T&D Operations groups, T&D Asset Management organizations, Project Management and telecommunications.

Work Hours / Travel Requirements:
40 hours per week, plus OT as needed.  Some system travel expected.

Education requirement is a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, BSEE, with preferred accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
