Chevron Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for the position of Toxicologist located in Richmond, California.Overview:The toxicologist we are seeking will join an existing team of Health Environment and Safety professionals serving Chevron operating companies world-wide. Toxicologists in our group characterize health hazards, exposures, and potential health risks associated with petroleum products and materials. Serves as an expert consultant to Operating Companies on technical projects, product regulatory compliance, and key health issues. This position will provide global subject matter expertise to operating companies in the areas of Regulatory Compliance Assurance, Product Stewardship and Occupational Health in support of Operational Excellence. In performing these duties, toxicologists monitor and review technical literature and databases for new scientific information and data on petroleum-based materials and products. They maintain knowledge on proposed legislation and regulatory changes/trends affecting chemicals of interest and participate in industry-wide trade associations, technical workgroups and regulatory advocacy committees related to product stewardship and general toxicology issues. In order to effectively meet customers needs in these areas, the toxicologist works in close partnership with the operating companies to develop and optimize technical service and technology development efforts. Qualifications:Responsibilities:• Independently identifies and interprets information on potential health effects for chemicals of interest to Chevron, including lubricating additives, hydrocarbon mixtures and petrochemicals. • Conducts product hazard evaluations and risk assessments. Characterizes potential health effects and health risks associated with potential exposures to these chemicals.• Works with Chevron Operating Companies including product development and product stewardship groups to recommend testing, labeling, MSDSs, exposure standards, and other product stewardship measures in compliance with relevant regulations and operational excellence.• Monitors toxicology studies at contract laboratories outside of Chevron in support of hazard evaluation and product development to meet regulatory guidelines and GLP regulations, including placing contracts, reviewing protocols, study results and reports, and auditing contract laboratories. • Participates on industry-wide trade associations, technical workgroups, and scientific advocacy committees to address toxicology, risk assessment and/or exposure assessment issues of interest to Chevron.•Provides litigation support for personal injury or product liability issues.•Understands and is familiar with applicable international, federal and state product health safety regulations.•Serves as a member of the Chevron Emergency Information Center, being on-call on rotation periodically during off-hours. Provides health, safety and environmental information on products or other chemicals to customers and other callers, including physicians and emergency response personnel.•Specialty areas of specific interest: experience in ecotoxicology and/or exposure assessments.Qualifications:• Master’s degree required in toxicology, pharmacology, health sciences or closely allied science• Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred.
