For more information about Progress Energy, visit the company's Web site at www.progress-energy.com Job Description Responsibilities of this position center around providing leadership and technical expertise in the planning and development of an adequate, economical, and reliable bulk transmission system. This includes analyzing the transmission system's performance to determine future system requirements, developing alternatives to meet these requirements, conducting an economic evaluation of the alternatives, submitting a report to Management detailing the features of the study, and recommending one of the alternatives as the expansion plan for the transmission system. Another major responsibility involves the coordinated development of the bulk transmission system with the requirements for service to existing and future distribution substations supplying local areas. These local areas incorporate sectors having varying growth rates and service requirements. Area transmission must be developed to meet growth and service requirements of each sector and must be integrated into the bulk transmission system service. As a basic requirement to effectively simulate and analyze the performance of the Company's transmission system, the incumbent must develop knowledge of the physical transmission systems of both Progress Energy and its neighboring utilities, their limitations and strengths under normal and emergency operations. The incumbent must develop a thorough knowledge of how Progress Energy and these companies operate both on an individual and collective basis, and must maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the constantly changing load and resource expansion plans of Progress Energy and its neighbors. In addition, the incumbent must develop a thorough knowledge of the various computer programs used by the Transmission Planning Unit to simulate the system's performance and of how to operate, troubleshoot intermittent problems, and most efficiently utilize the various operating options in the programs to obtain desired study results. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program or a current PE license is required.  An international engineering degree will be considered. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree. 1-3 years engineering experience required.
