Boatswain’s Mate in the Coast Guard Reserve

We are looking for individuals to learn what it takes to be a Boatswain’s Mate (small boat operator) one weekend a month and two weeks each year in the Coast Guard Reserve. We will teach you the skills you need to help keep our waters free of environmental and terrorist threats, enforce maritime laws, provide aids to navigation, and search and rescue.

 

As a Boatswain’s Mate in the Coast Guard Reserve, you will be one of the most versatile players of team Coast Guard. You will become a master of seamanship and be ready to respond to any situation. Our motto – Semper Paratus, Always Ready! 

 

Your primary duties will include:

 Small Boat OperationsNavigationSupervision of Ship’s Deck ForceCommunicationsPort SecurityDeck Maintenance

 

Eleven weeks of technical training is all it takes to make a positive change in your life and to those in your community! The Coast Guard Reserve even pays you to learn! We need men and women looking for a little excitement, some extra money, and a rewarding way to spend one weekend a month and two weeks a year.

All candidates applying for enlistment into the U.S. Coast Guard must meet basic age, physical, mental, civil, and citizenship eligibility criteria. Qualification for enlistment also requires passing an Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and physical exam. Contact your local recruiter for qualifications. Reservists may be activated at times of emergency or disaster.
