Job Summary:

The Design, Drafting and Documentation (“Designer”) role within the Engineering group is focused at providing services to two areas. The first is sales project fulfillment and secondly, new and current product development and improvement. The role of the designer is such that inputs may be received from many directions including senior engineers, sales order and quotation documents, consulting engineers, manufacturing, QA/QC, and product engineering. The inputs received may be verbal, in hand sketch form, a mark-up of an existing drawing or, a 3D model created by others. The responsibilities include feedback and confirmation of the input, determination of a new request against similar historical projects and execution of the requested work effort.  The work will be performed under all relevant standard operating practices generated by the engineering department. Where no internal standard exists, MFIC adopts the standards of the GE Drafting Manual, if applicable. The goal of the Designer is to receive the inputs and create designs, drawings, cut sheets, data sheets and any other technical document as needed to satisfy the requirements of the sales order, or new and current product development or improvement. It is expected that the Designer possesses a high level of expertise using MFIC selected design and document management tools, after training and familiarization.

 

 

Job Description:Create/edit models and drawings data sheets, or specification sheets as needed, using SolidWorks, AutoCAD and other design tools as requiredCreate and edit other document types including but not limited to MSOffice applicationsSuccessfully store and retrieve documents in a network file storage system and/or with PDM Works for document managementUtilize the MAX MRP system for Part Master and BOM creation/editing and other functions as requiredWork closely with design engineers and R&D during design phase of project to determine technical needs, CAD processes and document delivery guidelines for the project. After needs are determined, set-up CAD files and document the necessary quality control measures Make changes and/or corrections and produce final documents for review. Check for integration of information with MRP system, and coordinate all needed disciplines for Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Notices (ECN). Suggest improvements, accept inputs and work with engineers to resolve document coordination and production problems. Reproduce documents upon request Provide day-to-day support for all disciplines relating to CAD and document management issuesReview, process, and release engineering changes in support of production and R&D functions and maintain correct and complete information prior to release. Includes document control process steps from concept and feasibility to production release for parts, assemblies, and supporting documentation.Reviews drawings and documents for conformance to standard operating policies and procedures.May participate in Engineering Change Notice/ New Product Development meetings. May act as engineering change process focal point as ECN/Document Control chairpersonSupport the maintenance of the document control system. Experience with support for new software/upgrades for CAD and documentation desired.Perform related assignments as required by engineering managementMust be comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
