Catalytic Reactor Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide scientific and engineering technical leadership and support for operation of state-of-the-art catalytic reactors used to assess activity of ceramic based SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalysts. Lead and support the development and improvement of testing and data analysis procedures. Position supports production, quality, development and sales/marketing groups and works collaboratively with other laboratory teams to meet customer expectations.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the development of new catalytic reactors and modification of existing reactor systems to meet vital corporate objectives
Lead and support critical laboratory projects focused on procedure and process development/improvements.
Improve and implement new testing and process control technologies
Provide the second level of technical support for catalytic reactor operation
Train technicians in the operation of new technologies/procedures resulting from development efforts
Author and review Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory operations
Develop or improve spreadsheets for data collection and analysis.
Assist development, production and engineering staff in designing test conditions and interpreting results
Safety leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

MS or Ph.D. in, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Chemistry or related field. Strong BS candidates may be considered with verification of significant related technical accomplishment.
Minimum of three years experience in a chemical laboratory, R&D, chemical process support and development, or a related function is required (experience accepted will depend on degree level and nature of experience).
Strong experience/knowledge related to catalytic reactors is critical.
Direct experience with gas phase heterogeneous catalytic reactors strongly desired
Basic understanding of analytical chemistry fundamentals, spectroscopy, chromatography and gas phase analyses is desired.
Must have experience optimizing process parameters by experimental procedures. Design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC) experience/training is a definite advantage.
Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
Must have a good understanding of computers and Microsoft products, specifically Excel and Word. Relevant experience with CAD and databases is highly valued.
Must have effective communication and time management skills and a highly developed work ethic
Must be able to work effectively with others in a team environment.
